Switch pro controller disconnecting while on wired connection?
As the title says, I am using a wired connection with my Switch pro controller. While playing, it will frequently disconnect. I'm playing in big picture mode. I've tried turning off my Switch thinking that it could be a problem if it was close by. I've tried changing cables too. Nothing works. It lights up the home button with the blue which means it's connected to steam. The player number indicator thing (4 green lights on bottom) turn off then try to pair again. This used to not be a problem but now it does it often.

Edit: Commented with temporary solutions, sadly there's nothing permanent

Did you manage to solve this issue? I'm having the exact same problem and it drives me nuts. Used to work fine until a while ago.

I found some temporary work arounds but they don't always work. I ended up getting an Xbox controller since it has better support on windows but that's not a solution for everyone. Here's a few things you can try:

  • Disable controller rumble (in steam settings under controller)
  • Also in steam settings for controllers, turn on "use nintendo button layout" and "enable steam input for switch pro controllers" if those aren't already checked
  • Try connecting via bluetooth and use big picture mode on steam
  • Connect the controller to your nintendo switch, go to system settings > controllers and sensors > Update controllers to check if the controller needs updated

Hopefully some of these work. I wish there was a permanent fix but it seems like the pro controller is buggy with steam.

Hey, I had the same problem and i actually found a solution for it.

It might be a bit obvious once you read it but just for anyone to not waste an hour like I did searching for an answer.

Of course I tried to change all the settings in steam too and nothing worked either. It kept disconnecting on wired every few mins. After a while I thought "What if it isnt a steam or software problem but a hardware one?" and in the end I was right.

I was using the usb cable that came with my pro controller, I never had issues with it on the switch and I never used it with anything else but somehow that was the problem. Maybe its a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ quality cable, maybe its not a data cable idk but once I switched it with the cable I am using for my phone it worked and stoppped disconnecting.

I'd suggest everyone who has this issue not to use the apprenetly crappy one that comes with the pro controller but to just try a quality data cable instead. It worked for me and with how cheap nintendo is with some of its hardware I wouldnt be suprised if it is just a problem of the crappy cable nintendo ships with the pro controller.

This had been plaguing me for awhile, but I fixed it by "forgetting" the pro controller in my Windows bluetooth devices

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
