Steam Deck | Block "Sexual Content" and "Hentai" Categories
Hello Valve!

Why is there no feature in the Steam / Steam Deck service to block Game Categories?

In addition to there being various categories that I will literally never purchase from, we had an incident lately where a young relative wanted to play on the Steam Deck... they ended up in the Store and clicked on Anime.

So now, I do WANT a parental control option if I cannot remove specific categories to remove the clearly masturbation titles that make up "Sexual Content" and "Hentai" categories.

I want to be able to look through the Anime category for Anime which is different than Hentai.

Saying they are similar is like saying Porn should be in the "Kids" section of streaming services.

I would prefer the ability to hide categories of my choice but if not... I will tolarate a block for just the pointless wank off categories.

Adult Sexual Content is OFF by default and it is an account setting. If you are seeing said content you enabled it.
Enable Family View and set up the filters.

it seems like every time I block a tag or category these types still get through under a different tag or category, especially during sales. you can only exclude up to 10 tags in preferences, that amount should be doubled or tripled.

That's why you change the actual preferences and not just block tags. Go to the store preferences and you can turn Sexual Content and Adult Only Sexual Content off.
Block the Hentai and Visual Novel tags, that often takes care of the overload. And ensure Adult Only isn't checked, of course.
Maybe stop an underaged child being left alone on an age restricted site like steam would be easier?

Steam isn't age restricted.

it is according to the Steam Subscriber Agreement section 1 ... not that anyone reads things like EULAs ...

You mean the "must be 13 for an account"?

Yeah, that's a federal regulation. By that logic every website that has an account system is "age restricted".

Age restricted means you have to verify your are of a certain age before you can view the site.

and how many games have an age gate to proceed to view on steam?

Don't know. But the site and store itself has no age gate.

So, again, Steam is not age restricted.
There are too many ways to exclude adult only stuff already.
I don't get the complaint here.
Oh ok then dont leave a young person on their own if theres content you dont want them to see but cant control.
Same for anything really?
You are never going to stop everything and thats life

It's an issue with the Steam platform period.

And for Valve, it's super easy to add the functionality.

And for you who have provided your negative two cents, it would improve your ability to discover new games you would like.

That makes no sense.
You can already do all of that right now.
You cannot find Adult games if you turn off the Adult Games options.
That's literally what it does.

Then all you need to do is block the hentai tag, and maybe one or two others.
THen boom. No more adult games or even 17+ games. :P

It's so very simple, and I don't know why you think Valve doesn't have these options when they truly do. And people have explained this in the thread.
LOL.

If you do all of this, and still see adult games, please link us those games so we can see how they are bypassing all the filters in existence.

Is there anyway to block "in app purchases" games?

+1

(I asked Steam Support that same question yesterday, and their reply basically was that I should post a feature-request for that feature in this forum.)
