Achievements that are no longer possible to achieve
I like to get 100% or work on getting 100% achievements in games , i find it a good game play or replay-ability motivator to aim for achievements , but i am consistently finding games i buy its just not possible getting all of them IE multiplayer service has been shutdown etc etc. Does steam ever plan or having these removed from the games so that we can actually get a 100%
achievement completion on older games. a good example is Garry's mod - Yes i am the real Gary - meet Gary online. now i mean if you buy the game in 2022 there's absolutely no chance at all of ever meeting Gary online now , so how could you complete the achievements they advertise the game with, fair enough if you have won that achievement years back when he was active but for new purchasers of the game i think these achievements should be removed. another example would be hitman absolution , the contracts portion of their game has been shutdown and servers no longer online but multiple unobtainable achievements remain for the game. just seems odd to advertise the games with them but not allow players to achieve them through legitimate means. Surely steam could integrate a report function to report achievements that are no longer obtainable

Steam will not remove any features from a game, as those are entirely the responsibility of the games devs. and if the devs dont feel like doing it then it wont happen
old story, dude. There are dozens of games with achievements linked to multi - typically u have to beg people to play with you, which in many cases doesn't work. So, don't take these games into account, just focus on SP games.
You will have to post this in the game's forum or support page.

I agree time and especially event-based achievements should not be put in games for these reasons mentioned.
Game devs decide what achievements to have for their games. Steam has no control over that, as Flux said. Unfortunately, there are many devs who have these kinds of achievements, or achievements that are broken that they cannot, or do not want to fix.

To me, that is simply poor design, much like poorly designed content in a game. However, in some cases, mutiplayer achievements are possible, with a little networking. For instance, you can dig around the Portal and Tomb Raider communities to arrange for MP matches for cheevo hunting. In other cases, if you have friends or family members on Steam, you can work out MP matches with them.

Otherwise, you are relegated to using other methods like file editing, game save sharing, or SAM, among others.

If the achievement is only about multi then it is not a tragedy - there is always a slight chance to get it somehow. There are, however, achievments with totally closed architecture. For example saying that you have to play on particular date or play with particular person (dev). There is no way to get those achievements, no matter how much u try because... well... time has passed, can play a game on day that was ten years ago, right?
Either talking to the game devs or using other methods like SAM, save files, etc.

Steam has no control over games since achievements are responsible for the devs they made.
Another option is to change the way you think about achievements. If you are using them to gain respect and admiration from others then you need to come to the realisation that nobody cares. It's better to use achievements as a way to ensure you've played the game thoroughly and got the most out of it - in this case it doesn't matter if some are not possible.

I agree with this. When I was 15, my thinking was entirely different than that of today.
As I got older I realized that all that fuss about achievements is simply ridiculous.
They are there. It's your choice and yours alone, will you invest your time and dedication on them or not.
Jim is right. Nobody cares about how many perfect games you have. Some people abuse it - first of all, there are games with small number of achievements that can be easily grinded in few hours. Second thing - many people just ust app to "set" achievements as gained. So, basically, you can get 100% achievements in 20 games within hour. Either you do achievements for you, or dont do them at all.
Start game 1000 times.....
are you really sure you want to get achievements to 100% just for having 100%?

I look at them to see what happened. Not as a list of what i have to do.

Yeah, there's a few of those that are borderline impossible to obtain.

If you've really got your heart set on them, look into achievement hunting discords/communities. Some of the larger orgs do special events with the devs.

I know some folks in 100Pals do actually have the Garry achievement. If he shows up in a lobby, you'll definitely get pinged.

good luck though, it'll take a very long time. Like others said, I recommend putting it on the backburner and achievement hunting other games. Maybe check howlongtobeat to decide your next one.
IIRC that Garry's Mod achievement can also be earned by playing with someone who has it, but that might be a different game that involves playing with the devs to get an achievement.

this is an actual achievement in capcom arcade stadium
Pretty sure Plague Inc has an achievement where you have to play against a person that already has it. They wanted to imitate a disease spreading.
