i have a 2 gig internat connection and a 6000 $ gaming computer i`ve checked my mtu both on router and pc. i can speed test my internet while im downloading at steam and hit 560plus mb/sec yet in peak hours i cant get 6 mb/sec on steam downloads not to mention the larger more taxing games are not even playable due to lag. games freeze ect generally steam sucks s dont even ask about memory i have 64 gig of the fastest ram for sale. your servers are overloaded slow and pieces of crap. your entire I- T staff needs fired if this is their idea of acceptable i`m sick of you and being throttled by traffic volumes you just cant handle. get your ♥♥♥♥ together or let me transfer my games to someone that can run a server. im thinking its the dam least you could due as you waste my time money and piss me off to boot if i ping google in china i have a 21 ms ping to the other side of the world. Its not on my end ive tried 20 plus of your servers all around the world. i dont play and download at the same time [as i could not even if i tried] the servers all suck 8 am to 1:30 am the next morning you cant play a large graphic intense games on this service so called "platform" 8 to 10 hours to download 300 gig is just rediculus you suck. fix it or you will lose 4 more accounts for me the wife and kids even at 3:00 am i can only get 200 mb/s im not staying up untill 4

Steam can obliterate gig connections

Your steam downloads are limited by

1) your CPU
2) your disk IO
3) your anti-virus killing disk IO performance
4) your ISP

Chose any of the above. Because Steam can destroy your connection

I can download Destiny 2 at 800mbps to my ssd drive

If you are patching a game then again, patching is limited by your CPU and disk IO to process all the disk IO to patch a game. Games like Destiny2, DBD, payday2, require any patch to update all game files. This will be slow no matter how 'fast' your computer is.

What are the specs of your 6k pc? Is it for gaming? What sort of drive are you downloading to? Cos I have 0 issues hitting 1+gbps on any games. I downloaded reddead 2 118gb in less than 15 mins? I've installed about 2tb of games on two diff systems in the last two weeks with 0 issues from steam.

So which of your 5 games on your 6k pc gave you trouble? What sort of drive are you downloading to?

I have the same connection speed as you and no issues at all. Sounds like you have a slow HD. Use an SSD they're a lot faster.

I was trying to get at this without assuming, which got me curious as to who spends "6k on a pc" without getting a few ssd's.

How would it help the OP. Note the OP basically is complaining that the patching is slow. This is already displayed on the downloads tab as it is. The downloads tab also can't show you the part where your anti-virus is obliterating your disk performance causing patchign to slow down. All a speed test is goign to tell you is that "yes valve can obliterate yoru connection" which it already does IF your system can support it. But generally speaking unless you're downloading a game, from scratch, your download speed is not the primary bottleneck. Meaning the test doesn't actually tell you anything that helps this particular misconception.

i seriously doubt your rigs even close i biult my first pc in the early 80~s I work it when i say 6k thats parts minus the gpu card and cpu as a few thousand each respectively on their own. now maybe 6 to 30 mbs is acceptable to you on peak business times and you sit in mamas basement so you have nothing better to do for 6 to 7 hours while a game downloads. The issue is not enough servers for traffic Now at 3:30 am i can hit 300 plus mb/s downloads on steam but i to work on my employers servers. i work 8 to 630 7 days a week and cant sit on my duff all night. until usage drops off btw thats steams posted rate you know listed in the down load folder at steam while you download. it is not my transference or estimate. ive tried la, columbus, toronto icelan greenland belgium s. africa brazil and several other servers some are slightly better but still stink. and as stated i can while in steam and down loading ping china google 21 ms response download speed test 460 mb/s my rig has 2 x m.2 s pci drives a amd threadripper 3975 x cpu and asus pro gaming mb 64 gig ddr5 and a sata ssd for back up only for a total of 11 tb disk usage never exceeds 18 percent and memory usage is never over 35 % cpu is under 25% my mtu is achieving 1500 units/sec no los no curruption win 10 pro 64 bit operating system [ fresh instal 2 days ago nothing in it except steam. i have verified all my files. my modem and eithernet card are both asus 2 gig setups and when the pc is alone on net it gets that np and then some. I have wiped and reloaded steam 3 times and evry game in it and all the games were wiped twice it is not corupted files i have cleared the download cache repeatedly its not my rig its not enough and crappy servers for to much traffic if you are ok with 35 mb/s fine more power to you. i`m not i cant waste 5-7 hours downloading a 300 gig game i need to work to pay the bills i left home 30 plus years ago no one pays my morgage. ok so now im open to ideas if anyones got a fix or hack. its four of our computers all showing the same crappy download rates not just this one.
