Anyone else with this issue see below:
I didn't realise the Steam Deck UI was available for PC under the beta channel. I signed up on guest PC (media center) and added the "-gamepadUI" launch parameter to the Steam launcher app in Kodi (parameter can be added to the Steam.exe shortcut if launching directly). It now launches straight into the new UI which is much better for navigating with controller only, and perfect for use on a large TV in the lounge. Well done Valve and about time.
The new UI only uses the icons from the grid view (large mode) in Steam, so assign your custom artwork to Steam on Host PC for non-steam games etc. then just copy the Steam\userdata\[user]\config\grid folder to the guest PC and it will display the same images on both. No more black placeholder boxes for non Steam games. Nice.
