It's not only a suggestion, but also something I wanted to create a discussion about. I'll crosspost it I suppose.
I wanted to find out if others feel the same way as me before suggesting it for Steam to consider.
I touch type and sometimes don't position my fingers correctly, so I sometimes see this message. And it does feel like I'm being talked down to as if I am a kid trying to 'hack' out of family view. I personally use family view to appear offline, not be distracted by people messaging, not have my playtime analysed by friends etc etc. Basically a lot of reasons other than trying to stop a family member accessing something. I don't like being talked down to like a child. People use family view for different reasons but even if that message was aimed at kids, I think it's a bit insulting. I am pretty sensitive though.
Yes, but it happens. Maybe I'm an edge case but sometimes my fingers slip or shake, my keyboard chatters or I have finger pain from arthritis. Or I just misplaced my touch typing.
'Got caught' - again intimating that I'm doing something wrong by sometimes getting my pin wrong! A person can and does sometimes enter the wrong information inadvertently..
I get that I'm almost certainly an edge case but thought I'd offer my experience for Valve to consider.
I accept they'll probably never change it, but any/every time I see it I feel a bit insulted/annoyed by it. It's like steam is goading me for not being super careful typing in my pin.
Failed!
you also dont need to think that you fail.
I don't log in every time I start steam, I set it to log in automatically, so I never see that message.
Failed can mean a loss of internet in that instance too, it's not just about credentials iirc.
It's not as rude as 'Nice try.' in my opinion. It's just not needed. It could just say 'Wrong PIN.' instead. Is any kid actually going to try 9999 PINs??? I don't think you need to try to further dissuade them from attempting that with a 'Nice try.' message to try to irk them.
Then your problem is solved.
But it was a BAD try, not a nice one lol. I'd literally rather it said 'FAILED - TRY AGAIN!'
Yes, he must be the one responsible!!
makes me think of Positive Reinforcement over Negative Punishment
