A Good Controller for Steam
Are there any controllers with rumble, motion controls, and anything else Steam might use? I'm currently thinking of the Logitech 710, but it might lack what I'm looking for.

Logitech's are okay.
I'm quite fond of my Steelseries Stratus Duo, even though it's xinput only. A good PC controller needs to support both directinput and the worthless, limited xinput.

Xbox pads are abominations.

I would be interested in trying one of the newer Playstation controllers with the touchpad. Depending on how Citra development is handling touchpad zones and accelerometer rotation.

The most support gamepad is an Xbox controller. Get the latest version and it should work right away in basically all games on Steam.

A Playstation gamepad will work as well but you might need to fiddle a bit more to get the UI to change to the correct button prompts.
If you get a PS4 gamepad you'd want an official DS4 bluetooth adapter which is super rare now and cost a ton. So a PS5 gamepad might be a better idea.

I use a PS5 gamepad and it works in every Steam game but some features might not be on.

Logitechs are fine. Lots of people use Xbox controllers and some of us use Playstation style. Pick which you prefer to hold. If you go Playstation keep in mind most games only have button prompts for Xbox style so you'll either need a mod to show Playstation button prompts or just get used to seeing XYAB. Seems odd at first but with practice you'll instinctively press circle when you see B

Official adapter not required. I've used an Asus Bt400 with my DS4s for years with out issues. Haven't tried plugging in headphones so can't confirm if that works or not.

I mean the reality is that for maximum compatibility and least headaches you better get an xbox controller

The thing with using third party Bluetooth adapters is that they will make Steam detect it as a 360 Gamepad.

The official adapter that I have makes it detect as a PS4 gamepad.
The third party Bluetooth adapter still works but not 100% correctly.

I might go with the PS5 (or Switch pro. Would the A and B buttons appear swapped if I do that?) route. The problem with Xbox controllers is that they don't have motion controls, which I'd like to have the option to use if the game supports it.

Strange cause I've just connect both of mine and Detected controller shows as
'PlayStation 4 Controller : ' Red DS4
'PlayStation 4 Controller : ' Silver DS4

Red and Silver is my name for them the quoted section is what Steam shows. Always been this way for me on multiple OS installs

I might go the 8bitdo route instead. I wasn't sure about it based on a misunderstanding. Will it work on all games (even in wired mode)?

Scratch that! I found a thread that revealed it's fully supported in Bluetooth mode (and that I should use Switch mode)!

Me again! I once read that a game had 16 player local multiplayer (I forgot which one), does that need to be over Remote Play Together, or could (at least) 16 controllers connect to one computer?

I use the Xbox controller, but I found a new game I love and the whole thing is really CRAZY. Idk if it's the new update but for me. I'm a bit annoyed

I could be very wrong about that
But I've been using the same type of controller for almost a year
And I own 3 of them there all doing this really weird movement almost like the mouse is trying to move when I am moving UGHHH
has anybody been having issues with uploading your layouts (just now). i think servers broken. Can someone confirm ?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
