Joycon with Steam?
Just updated Steam client on my PC and saw that Steam now supports JoyCon.
Can anyone confirm this? Do you need third party apps for this or just connect the joycon with bluetooth?

It seems like it's plug n' play, if you go to your Steam settings, then down to Controller and select General Controller Settings you'll see they've added Switch Pro Configuration Support, which wasn't there before.

All configuration support in that list are controllers that have plug n' play support, enabling these configuration support allows you to customise their functionality with your Steam, such as analog stick deadzones, rumble effect or for example Playstation Configuration Support allows you to change the LED colour, so on so forth.

Just to clarify, it's not mandatory to enable these configuration supports, they're only for people who prefer to use the controllers in Big Picture mode or if a game isn't reading the controller properly such as showing Xbox button prompts, Steam will help make the game communicate with your controller more accurately with these supports.

Edit - simplified answer: Just connect the Joy-Cons with bluetooth should work.

Why would you ever want to use a joycon?

If you already have one, why not?

I prefer to use a switch pro, myself. It's a solid controller, and I'm glad they support them now.

JoyCons are tiny, thus portable. Come to think it I should pack a few along my Steam Deck for impromptu multiplayer.

They're tiny lol. Most uncomfortable controller I've ever used.

I have neck and back issues, normal controllers force me to bend my arms in a "/ \" way (which ends up giving me massive neck pain) while instead separate joycons allow me to keep the arms on my sides (relaxed ergonomic posture).

I know it sounds odd because before I started having these issue I would never guess I'd find the joycons actually comfortable, but I even talked about it with my physiotherapist and she confirmed it that it makes sense (arms in a "| |" way is a natural posture, "/ \" way is not and so it can cause pain to people who already have issues).

The only thing I still hate about them is the bloody drifting.

Guess that depends on your hands. I prefer it to my Xbox controller too.

They are both similar but the grip on the pro is less unnecessary big. (For me) and it fits just fine.

I like both really, the pro just have a slight edge for comfort.

I mean the joycons, the pro and the 3rd party ones are all similar to an Xbox controller. The joycons literally hurt my hand because they are like the size of my thumb is why I was curious.

The current Steam beta supports split JoyCons. Meaning using 2 of them as one controller, similar to what you get on the Switch. Singular JoyCons have AFAIK been usable for a while.

They added Switch Pro controller support in 2018.

I miss the Wii controller.

Most people said it was ass in FPS. But I always thought once you get used to it your popping heads like crazy.

Plus it’s something OP perhaps could have used if they still made stuff like that.

As for me I'm fond of Xbox One Elite controller, when left overnight, that steel D-pad is all nice and cold.

Thank you kindly, my peripheral vision certainly is poor.
