True meaning of the "Jester"
We somewhat accepted the "Jester" award as a way to mark trolls, baits or reviews written by people failing to cope with game mechanics. But what is the actual meaning of this award?

Seriously, I only use it for trolling and it seems like most other users do the same. Take a look at the suggestions forum for example. People get a jester, they complain about it asking for a feature to reject or remove single awards and as a result they get another jester.
Although it's quite funny, I don't think this was intended, so what was the true meaning of a "Jester" award?

Any ideas?

Whatever it means, I'll gladly take the points when I get awarded the jester.

A Jester needs to amuse the King. :joker: :bfdeadroyal:
I don’t know what’s the meaning on Steam but my wife always calls me “the clown” when she goes out with her boyfriend.
Thanks OP.

And so much for the people who keep saying "but the jester isn't used to insult people; people only think it is when they choose to take it that way". Sheesh, it's like some people are either blind to the idea of inferring meaning from context or just really want to lean on the barest thread of plausible deniability...

Very eloquently put there my friend.
The problem is that it resembles a clown and not a Jester.
I got a couple clowns/jesters/whatever you want to call them on my profile and I like them. Entertaining people is a skill in of itself, an important one and certainly not an easy one. On the other hand, an important figure in the current WEIRD international politics is a former clown.
Zelensky?
We|re all actors here in this mofo.
So the jester award was meant to represent an entertainer or a user who makes people laugh and cheer...? Sounds plausible.

But because it looks like a clown emote the main usage is for trolling, which I can totally accept. As long as thumbs down are "invisible" or unavailable, we have to take a different approach to publically show our disagreement. Or the fact that we are actually laughing because of the user and not his/her postings.

By the way, thanks for the two jesters and free points, my fellow steam users. Highly appreciated.
The original premise was to give it to funny content.

When I dish out this award and Hilarious, it is with this in mind, not as "payback" or "downvoting", which I am well aware is prevalent in the forums.
Why would you give a troll free points ? Seems counter-productive.

:theplayboy: The community’s variation in taste is wild!
Whenever I see a post of mine has gotten a jester, to me it simply means the person giving it has no actual worthwhile response to give. And if they think they're "trolling" or "insulting" me that way, they live in a fairy world.
