So steam is doxxing all the users that put their real name in the real name box in their profile settings
(If you have your profile in public)

Just in case I bring it up for all the new users.

It's worse than that. I believe a steam employee attempted to dox me through the credit card/payment info and passing the dox along to his friends to harass me. How do I know? Because that was an old account, which only bought games with a credit card on file. The card belonged to my father. He received phone calls at work calling him all sorts of nasty things and death threats. He had his business trashed on yelp and his facebook vandalized. How do I know it was through steam? Because the callers were alluding to things I said on the steam forums, about not liking mediocre hipster games like yiik and tlou2. Because the creatives behind them are talentless hacks who push their disgusting progressive ideology at the expense of gameplay and story. I will always stand by those statements.

I keep/kept steam and all other social media separate. My steam friends are just that; steam friends. I have never met nor communicated with any of them off platform. My real life friends dont play games on PC. Most everybody I know has a console and only playing cod, fifa, madden and other sports and racing games. The e-mail and account name I used were disassociated from any real life name. The only way, that they could've found out who I was, was by pulling my payment info. Now I dont know what access steam employees have to payment processing info. But I believe that this employee may have worked in steam support.

Today, I am a lot smarter. On my other account. I only bought games through steam cards that I always bought in cash. Never let the retailer have my phone numbers either, just in case. And honestly picking fights with people on the internet is no substitute to actually beating them up in person.

i dont think its about being forced....

its about steam not making aware of what happens with the information you provide
People should probably click that little question mark next to the real name box... They might find it illuminating.

🤣
I'm going in blind here i cant even find where it says to add your real name...
noone cares Bozo.

is this a troll comment because there are enough responses to show
a few people care enough to respond to the op...

your response is proven to be factually incorrect

I don't think you understand the meaning of "doxxing"

I'm sure if you dont know that an entity is posting your personal information in public it can be called doxxing. And yes, Steam doesn't specify say that in the ? buttom, steam just says it can help friends reach you.

Doxxing is when someone else posts your real info online - if you entered it into the form, it's not called doxxing. Steam didn't post your info.. You did - you posted it on Steam.

At this point you are right, too much drama, even if you say it for different reasons. I would have deleted it myself but I can't.

Wanted to advice to clueless player that didn't know this happens and use the forums regularly, the fact that it stays in the first page even after some hours probably helped some users that didn't know about this (And yes, those players exist). If you think this is clickbait and want to express your opinion, good for me, that makes you comment and make this post stay in the top :undyne:

Oh btw, thanks to the person who invested in 10% of the cost of my new profile background. Further investments would much appreciated by the same person or others with the same thoughts.💸
Dox definition.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/dox

If someone was to identify, and/or sharing private information about someone that be dox.

If you're telling everyone your name, and private information about yourself to the public, that is not doxing. Steam isn't doxing anyone either, as what you put on your profile is what seen by others, just like Facebook, twitter, or etc... If you don't want to share real name, or private info on profile, don't add it to your profile that others can view it.

Thanks to the new investor who contributed to 5% of the cost of my new profile background, making the total investment 15% of the cost. 💸
