Suspended Account

I have a friend who just got his account suspended over a bogus report on the community market about some $1k cs:go scam. He doesn't play cs:go and the person who reported him also somehow got his discord and messaged him about it saying he "Reported the wrong person" and how he was super apologetic about it. After his conversation with that guy he got a message on discord about the issue from someone who was impersonating the valve employee "KellyT". This person mentioned he need to scan my friends account for the scam and of course my friend didn't send his login but he did sent his purchase history on his account. The impersonator talked him into sending $600 for "insurance process validation" or else he might lose his account. He ended up sending it but closed all his accounts at his bank midway through because he got suspicious however now his account is really suspended. I don't know how his account got suspended unless he was scammed by an actual employee of Valve. He doesn't care about the money he lost but he does care about his account. Please message me if you have any knowledge that might help this case. Thank you.

its a scam. the person they talked to does not work for valve. report their account, block, and move on.

most likely, the account is compromised and he needs to secure it.


Steps to take NOW:
1. Scan for malware https://www.malwarebytes.com/
2. Deauthorize all other devices https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
3. Change passwords from a clean computer
4. Generate new backup codes for your Mobile App https://store.steampowered.com/twofactor/manage
5. Revoke the API key https://steamcommunity.com/dev/apikey (there should be nothing in the APIKEY)

that is a compromised account, it is not suspended. steam does not change the avatar nor name, they only reset them to the default (avatar is a ? and the name is reset to the accounts SteamID)

and looking at your friends list, at least one other may be compromise. please tell Whale to stop advertising 3rd party sites, the account name will be getting changed, better for whale to do it before support does. and then tell Whale to do the list I have posted to make sure the account is secured.

all 3rd party sites are USE AT OWN RISK, this is one of the ways that people get their accounts compromised.
