I have a friend that says he's done it in Linux with TTY and then he showed me. It does indeed work, but I haven't set it up myself, yet--even though I do run Linux only. The problem then is the machine is only capable of running Linux compatible games...
However... Since Steam's Proton was released, I think this will be an answer, as you will be able run Windows versions of games on Steam in Linux. So, this really means:
Linux + Steam Proton + Windows Games = Awesome!
I've even heard that Proton works better than Direct X 12 in some instances--as performance is concerned that is.
I'm going to try to get this up and running on my system and let you know how it goes. If it all works out, I'll try to post a tutorial on how I did it.
Cheers.
Officially it's a feature https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3629-RIAV-1617
"If your game loses focus, Steam will start streaming the desktop so that you can get back to it. This is a feature of Steam In-Home Streaming."
It is also what allows "Streaming non-Steam games in the Steam library may work but is not officially supported." to work since basically it just starts streaming the active window which can be a non-steam game as well as a steam game.
