Valve Steam Deck Star Citizen
Hey everyone. I’m itching to play Star Citizen and I’m wondering has anyone successfully played it on the Steam Deck? I shall be receiving mine at some point and I would love to know any tips to get it on there. Cheers

Though most people keep the deck connected to a power source, maybe they have clock speeds set slightly higher?

And as for the game itself: Free fly time is starting mid-of-month (aroung the 18th), everybody can try it out for free and make up their own minds whether this is a scam or "just" mismanaged development.
But please be kind ingame, the community is notoriously helpful and friendly towards newbies (since there is a sore lack of a tutorial this is greatly appreciated), but during the last year, there was a steady influx of toxic player who just want to ruin the fun for everybody by exploiting the as of now lacking judicial system and killing other players at every point without great penalty.
I hope this won't persist in the future, currently this is the greatest risk for the future of this game.

And even as a backer from the first hour, i had to chuckle at the Molyneux-Roberts-comparison. Chris Roberts himself once said he needed people to reign him in, to stop feature creep. Instead, we as the community cheered him on and demanded even more strech goals that people could throw money at - which further fueled his ambition.
So the community of this game dug their own grave, but what a grave it is - nicely decorated, with mechanics that to this day no other game has replicated, especially not all together. It's the small things, the movement of your character being influenced by weather, surfaces, etc par example, that add to the "believability" of the universe, the being there feeling.
Just yesterday got thrown to the floor during some wild maneuvers why standing on the bridge of a friends ship, felt like in a Star Trek episode ^^

As usual, such stuff is best directed at actual players of this game, that is the game forum. There's also ProtonDB and Deck-dedicated forums. You also shouldn't shy away from Linux gaming communities, despite a lot of people insisting on the Deck being something uba-special, it's still just a Linux PC.

So your first coure of action would be to find out if it works on Linux, natively or emulated (Proton, that is). The next step would be to check system requirements. How's the game compare to, let's say, Elden Ring in that regard?

As for getting it on there, it's pretty easy actually. If you've ever played a Steam game in your life, you can get Star Citizen onto the Deck.

Still, I was referring to your "If you've ever played a Steam game in your life" :-)

If we consider the usual non-IT crowd, the people who get sent to classes whenever the employer-supplied software they are using gets a major update because the UI might look slightly different now.

After doing their "Click on 'Library', find the game, click on 'Install', wait, click on 'Run'" class with exercises and receiving their "Certified Steam Deck User" certificate, do you think they can install a non-Steam game? :-)

There's literally thousands of games on Steam. Me knowing every single one of them, thus me knowing that a certain title isn't one amongst them, is a rather unrealistic expectation, don't you think? The OP dropped a title without any context. The OP didn't say "non-Steam game" so I didn't assume such.

I guess its about understanding how demand works with games and such. And from there companies decide what choices based on the ideas on the table.

The unoptimized trash dump is the 3080 or any nvidia card lol,i can run it with an rx 590 at 60fps all day and over on a few different 6900 xt's all day. I throw nvidia cards in the trash.

Pretty much. I mean even the styar citizen devs don't know what the system specs for their finished *snicker* game will be.

That it has been in development this long, with as much money as it has and only having siomething that'd barely be consider alpha to show for it.

THat game is a great illustration of sunk cost fallacy.

Tulips were a fad product that actually existed though. And they were actually produced. YOu could buy and own or at least rent tulips.

STar citizen is basically the devs trying to see how long they can keep a grift going.
And the truth is. Give the scope they're trying to achieve..it will never be finished.

I get 40 fps on a original rtx 2080 at 4k high and its only that low because my ram speed is to slow to keep up with more. None of my parts are at 100 percent when the game is running. The game is extremely cpu and ram dependent.

At least Star Citizen has a playable build!

I mean, that doesn't mean it's good, or that the game will ever come out fully, but it exists.
Which is more than I can say for a lot of other scams.
