Game Trailers
i hate any game trailer that has no gameplay in it. I see it as a waste of time plenty of games have fantastic visual cutscenes then fall short when in comes to gameplay. Its a game not a movie i want to see what im playing not what i could watch.

It either means they're selling the story over the gameplay, or they don't trust the gameplay to be good enough to sell the game. Some games, though, are more story than gameplay. Games like Detroit Become Human comes to mind. Those are basically interactive movies.

But I do agree that there should be some hint at the actual gameplay in a trailer.

i get the movie type games but they do it to every game regardless of type. i mean now a days youll see trailers 1-4 no gameplay just annoying. final fantasy series (one of my fav series) is a great example of why i would be upset, those games had fantastic cutscenes even when it was 2d. being hyped for months then finally see gameplay to let you down is unreal for this time frame. if they dont show gameplay i dont think they should have trailers at all. im not buying a movie.

Yep, it's safe to say the majority of the gaming community doesn't like cinematic trailers, as they don't reveal the essence of the game. When it comes to Steam, I think Valve should require at least one video with one minute of gameplay at least for the store page. Naturally, we can always watch YouTube but that can become a chore if you're doing it for various games, like when you're not sure what game to get and stuff like that.

That's a bit too much of a hard line though. I mean, it's their property. They can cut a trailer however they see fit in order to sell it. I'm like you, though, in that I'd like to see some effort to show actual gameplay. Luckily there are enough reviewers these days that a search for gameplay video on YouTube and the like are easy.

With Valve's history on these things, they aren't likely to bother stepping in to clean the mess until a big enough game does it to kick up a massive stink in the press, like No Man's Sky with its alleged fake screenshots. That fiasco caught Valve in the whole mess when even Dota 2 had screenshots that weren't actual in game content. Valve ended up changing those rules for screenshots on the store page.

No Man's Sky was eventually cleared of the false advertising allegations.

Welcome to the game marketing since the early 2000.

Before that if you looked at a box art or even advertisement, it was actually game footage or pictures taken straight from the game. Nowaday the way they do it is exactly the opposite. They don't sell you good games so they don't actually want you to know what you are getting into.

a hard line to ask for 30 seconds of gameplay. thats how long it took to read your comment and write this one pretty ridiculous to say they cant do it
