Steam Gift Card purchase Limit
I encountered a slight inconvenience at a London Drugs store in town and it seems to be an issue at 7Eleven as well. I purchased $100 worth of Steam gift cards at London Drugs and the guy behind me wanted to buy a Steam wallet card as well but couldn't. The store said there was a $100 dollar sale limit on Steam cards per hour. 7Eleven wasn't able to sell a steam card either because the activator wouldn't activate the card. Similar issue to the guy that was behind me at London Drugs. Why is this happening? That's good money that is walking out the door because folks can't buy/activate the cards. I must ask Steam to look into this. I wanted to buy more but couldn't because I thought it was $100 dollar limit per customer, which is still an inconvenience.

That's not a decision of Steam/Valve's. It's probably store policy to help thwart the rise of gift card scams.

It is a retailer restriction. Valve doesn't impose those types of restrictions.

Stopping 1 person from purchasing too many is one thing but preventing a group of unrelated customers from buying gift cards is a serious issue that Valve needs to address with these retailers.

Stopping 1 person from perchasing too many is one thing but preventing a group of unrelated customers from buying gift cards is a serious issue that Valve needs to address with these retailers.

What if the person in line behind you is a friend of yours helping you get around a $100-per-customer limit?

And what if they're not? What then?

Their not going to, many stores within South Dakota and others dont allow it either, gift card scamming is rather real and there's literally nothing Valve can say about it to start with unless they somehow plan to take this up with a federal court, I dont expect that to happen however.
That may be the case in the USA, but in Canada there are simpler rules with regards to artificial limits imposed by retailers. Valve can intervene, especially if the retailer is doing it without just cause or is doing it in a poorly implemented fashion which is hurting sales. Which in 7Eleven, best Buy, and London Drugs case, They have implemented a system that hurts customers and sales.

Rules are the same for everybody. Just look at Steam itself. So many hoops to jump through just because a lot of people get scammed. New rules are created when somebody finds a way around the existing ones.

And making (different) exceptions for all the other folks is just not feasible.

Then better rules need to be implemented. Valve is losing money here. I've seen it first hand.

My steam wallet is running dry now. All because I was unable to purchase the funds needed to make more purchases.

I appreciate the interest in this subject, however, I am not interested in excuses made for Valve by people who are not responsible for, or employed by valve. This "Discussion" is to draw attention to a serious problem that is affecting customers. And since there is no support topic for this in the Help section. I will leave this subject open until the issue is resolved.

Contact London Drugs corporate support or talk to their manager.

No place in the US has these restrictions.
