Banned for "piracy" for a game that was barely just announced, in a Community Hub of a different game?
Is there any kind of coordination on what constitutes a 'ridiculous' ban? It's developer backlash for a stated negative opinion on a bait-and-switch Epic platform release of a future title and my statement that I would "wait until it was available elsewhere".

There's no "permanent record" and Steam support will never overturn a ban given by a game dev, all they say is "That hub has its own rules on top of Steam's community guidelines".

From word of mouth of one of the ex volunteer moderation crew, all bans and warnings are tracked and can influence future moderation decisions.

Also; next to the ability to reply directly to a ban/warning to appeal it with the moderators of the forum hub where it was issued, all those reports have a link to directly contact Steam Support in case the forum hub owner is being unreasonable.

If you would have written Steam instead of elsewhere it wouldn't have looked like you're donning the pirate hat.

Those who hate EGS, also tend to be huge supporters of software piracy. So he said what he meant, and the developer was smart enough to know what he meant.

I'm not a fan of EGS, and I had no idea about that other part. I read his comment as waiting for it to come to Steam/GoG/whatever. /shrug

But it can easily be seen a different way due to its vague nature, which is par for the course when referring to pirating games.

Twisting words as usual. The influence is in regards to the level of punishment, not whether or not you're more or less likely to be moderated.

And if someone says, he wont get it on epic........ already a banable offence?
If its only sold on epic, that could be interpreted as whatever!

I think, the ban was wrong.

You were suggesting piracy, and that is against Steam Community rules. Just because some game hubs *cough*Sega*cough* are unmoderated in this subject doesn't mean it isn't against the rules. The rules used to call for a permanent Community ban on the first offense.

If they said elsewhere to protest Epic and it was on the Steam forums, let's presume the platforms that it would eventually be legally available on are Epic (the one hated against) and Steam (which of course is not "elsewhere." In that case they are suggesting something illegal.

Kind of like how people share gun plans on Reddit with vague references to the source, or share pirated content using links encoded in BASE64 to get around the filters.

Which means it influences future moderation decisions; i.e. influences the decision of how tough a penalty you'll be getting for an infraction of the rules.

And "twisting words as usual," really? If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black; considering it's you who is trying to insinuate something here about what I wrote. You honor your chosen screen name. "Judgmental Amaterasu" indeed.

There's also the option of third-party key sellers, right?
Though admittedly; a lot here depends on the exact context of what was originally posted, which we're not privy to anymore.

(And which is why I also prefaced my first post in this thread with the precondition: on the off-chance that OP was being genuine)

Which is why I had said platform and not store. Steam and Epic are both stores and platforms, but third party sellers are just stores and thus only offer codes redeemable on the platforms for said games.

But waiting to not get games on epic is what people do all the time.
They wait until its not exclusive anymore.

There is nothing wrong with it. It is suggesting to wait.

If he said wait until it was on Steam then that would seem safe.

I understood what he meant.

Just because someone interpreted what he said as something, does not mean its actually what was said.

If there wasn't so much abuse on the forums, I'd be more inclined to believe OP.
