how to find profile through username

The community search generates results based on profile names that are indexed there.

I am not sure why the user gave you his ACCOUNT name.

No.

Account names should be anonymous.

The only UID (unique identifier) that isn't anonymous is a profile's Steam64 ID.

So, he should send you a link to his profile.
