After a couple of unsuccessful attempts to log in, yesterday this message jumped out while reading the forums saying that after 1 hour it would be gone, but after 24 hours had passed, I still couldn’t log into my account. Does anyone know the problem?

I got the same issue and am basically permanently IP-banned from logging in with browsers. After a while, it changes back to lying that my login information was incorrect (even when I've just changed the password, and I'm using Copy-Paste to enter it), but it's basically impossible for me to log in now, even with VPN or after ipconfig release/renew. Interestingly, switching my phone to data allows me to log in.

You might not want to say that publicly on Steam forums.

Remember to use Steam time for this, not your local time. My guess is you tried to log in before the cooldown finished, resetting and extending it.

I'll never forget my first punitive cooldown in an MMO, I was shocked. It was like the game put me in time out.


Another possibility is that whoever tried to compromise your account is still trying. A very personal Denial of Service attack.
