[solved] When I open steam it makes my monitor go black
Hello. This has only been happening since yesterday:

When I turn on steam it effectively cuts the signal from my computer to the monitor. I need to turn the monitor off then on again to regain a signal.

This is the weirdest bug I've seen. When it first happened I thought someone had hijacked my computer and blacked out my screen.

I have up to date drivers. I have reinstalled steam. Same problem.

Anyone heard of this before? Searching google just brings up black boxes for friends window or black boxes for steam windows not the monitor signal seemly being cut.

Specs if needed though I dont understand why they woulld tie into this issue:

6700XT
2700X
Win 10
MSI screen (not sure model)
DPI connection

No other application or program be it a game or normal .exe does this. Just steam.

Used steam for a bunch of years now never had anything like this happen. Weird.

1. Does this only happen with the steam application ?

2. Have you tried to reset your graphics card setting to default and see what happens ?

3. Have you tried to reset your monitor to default and see what happens ?

4. Have you modified your devices recently or maybe touched a button by accident ?

5. Is you hardware by brand new or renewed and might have driver conflict with other devices recently ?

6. Have you been installing any new software related to graphic modification that might effect your screen automatically ?

7. Did you turn off other processes to see if steam is the only one effected software by the black or or more ?

8. Have you tried to see if other steam gamers on youtube have already solved this ?

Update: I had to reinstall steam to fix this. Tried updating everything else. Weird bug. Thank you TheFly for the lengthy reply and suggestions.
