You probably cant run any games on it either way as only Apps from the appstore run on it according to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-and-windows-11-in-s-mode-faq-851057d6-1ee9-b9e5-c30b-93baebeebc85

S mode is basically ChromeOS, that is, you can only use Store & web apps, nothing else.

If you want to use any desktop app, you have to quit S mode.

Thanks Guys. It's my wife laptop just arrived today. It says if I disable S Mode a lot of features will not work. I may just take that chance.

S mode is a heavily restricted windows mode that only works with windows apps. Of course its not going to run steam. Just turn off S mode and use normal windows

I just switched to regular windows. I BS that HP, Dell and others allow this from Microsoft. The anti-virus that was installed on the PC just popped up saying now you can enjoy the advantage of protection from said anti-virus.

Switching out of S Mode should not disable any features; it simply unlocks non-Store app support.

Uninstall it. Defender does the job just fine.

@ReBoot Thanks, I have always used Defender.

Yeah no, S mode basically locks down your computer to only windows store apps, basically you can't download any other programs and everything is locked down. I would turn that off since it basically disables functionality. If it's an OEM install, I would just wipe the thing clean since manufacturers load up so much BS on them like McAfee which you don't need, since windows defender is so much better.

Yeah, today I have installed Steam and other games we play as well as editing software and other software that we use. I am going to teach her all of the ins and outs, as we push our gaming to the next level.
