Steam messages/DM's
Just wondering if anyone can set me straight. It seems like that every time steam has an update on my PC that all the messages that people have sent me all vanish. It's really frustrating to not know how to reply or even if they wrote back to the last message. Is this normal for steam, is there a way or recouping the previous messages.

They will show the message text, but they do not link to the actual chat message. Your name and the name of the account you were chatting with will be clickable, and you can click that link to go to their profile. Then click on the "Message" button on their profile (make sure you are logged into chat), and it should open the last message between you and your friend- provided the message is not too old (only your last convo with them, and stored for 1-2 weeks max, I think).

If you want to save conversations for a longer amount of time for future referencing, you need to use third party SW, or take screenshots and save them on your own computer.

The chat box contents are wiped after some time after closing the box, but that's just in my experience with it. Do you leave them open all the time?

nah it closes when I close down my comp of a night

That may still be all it needs. Have you used the forum search function to see if any others have had this and found out?
