I don't understand what you're talking about here.
The icons on the desktop that Steam puts on it, are always the same type. They're always valid.
They're not broken.
I've never heard or seen of this issue before.
Can you please explain exactly what happens to break the Steam icons on the Desktop?
How is it broken?
Don't think it's really a Steam issue though.
Rockstar launcher, UbiConnect, Origin, Gog Galaxy - every lanucher, when i choose to create desktop shortcut, create it WITH PROPER ICON (Game icon).
Steam - when i choose to install game, it create desktop shortuct with game icon (correct)
Also Steam - when i have no game shortcut on desktop (to already installed game), and choose in steam library to create desktop shortcut, IT NEVER CONTAIN GAME ICON. NEVER.
Thats clearly an issue, and there is no need to deny that.
If you mean the default screen after you restart the PC, that's just the background,
my desktop, is steam... I have the other 10 important things on my task bar, but i always have steam as my desktop...it just feels empty without it
Go to view any folder, on the left click "Desktop", congrats, you just learned that primary logged in Desktop is indeed the Desktop, which has a background.
You mean you have a shortcut to Steam on your desktop.
I have never had a broken icon/link issue, unless it's calling upon removable storage not connected before the shortcut is loaded. So then the question is what kind of storage your Steam games are on, and if it's inactive before the system sees those shortcuts. Often when one person has an issue almost no one else is having, it's an issue on their end or they're using an unusual configuration thus causing their own issues.
