You know ... with the Dark Souls I knight as the poster boy.. and "Souls Like" as one of the genres..

Is missing the Dark Souls series in it's line up. It does have the 2 2D platformer, castlevania type games though that keep calling themselves "souls like" ... for some reason...

Might not be a bad idea to add the actual Souls games to the souls-like genre instead of just Sekiro.

Valve does not decide which games go on sale during these themed sales. The developers and/or publishers do. You need to complain to FromSoftware for choosing to not take part in the sale.

I didn't say you were wrong, I said it's more complicated than a blanket "valve does not decide".
It's a process which, if the steam store would put any kind of pressure -not coercion mind you- on from software to do even a 5% discound the next few days as a prerequisite to have them listed I'm sure they would have an ear for it.
IE: If the steam store really wanted them on there it would not be very hard to do so.

Again, All this only applies if a discount is indeed deemed a prerequisite to participate in a "festival".

To me this feels like the steam store ( i'm reluctant to use Valve here) either didn't want them there or they didn't put in the extra effort to have them there.

With the DS1 warrior as the poster boy I think this is all a bit awkward.

And yes I read the thread .. from 5 years ago 🙄 .. My car from 3 years ago.. My house from 20 years ago..

I'm pretty sure DS1, 2 and 3 have not been on sale since they took down the online part of the games in reponse to a potentially very dangerous security flaw being found.

It appears to be a concious decision from the publisher, to not have a sale while the games are still in a broken state.

That does indeed seem like a sensible decision if that's the case yes.

It doesn't take away from the fact them not being on there seems -to me at least- like an essential part of this "festival" is missing.

EDIT: I was under the impression it got fixed (or they promised it was going to be fixed) with the release of Elden Ring..

It isn't complicated- the link to the Steamworks guidelines and recommendations on marketing and discounts is pretty clear. Vale sees which games will meet the criteria to be part of any themed sale. They send out invites to the developers and/or publishers. The developers and/or publishers decide if they want to take part. Valve cannot 'put pressure on" them or include their games in a themed sale if they don;t want to be part of the themed sale.
And BANDAI NAMCO may have decided they did not want the Dark Souls games competing with other lesser-known titles they have on sale during the same time period in their Golden Week Sale: https://store.steampowered.com/developer/BANDAINAMCO/sale/bandainamcosale , and FromSoftware agreed, and may have a sale set up in the future that showcases their games alone- without competing with any other BANDAI NAMCO published titles.

Marketing and PR is up to the devs and publishers, and they decide when to put their games on sale, not Valve. Valve just lets them know in advance(well in advance (these things are set up a long time before the seasonal and themed sales happen- they don't just email them a few days ahead of time...) that their games meet the criteria to participate if they choose to. Valve leaves these things up to the developers and publishers.

If you really want the games, add them to your Wish List to be notified when they do go on sale- which they do on a regular basis.

I'm not sure to be honest, maybe it has been now but I don't think anything had been fixed at the time of Elden Ring's release

If you look at the reviews for the games and the game hub discussions- No. The servers have not been fixed yet. Some people are pretty mad about it too.

It isn't complicated, because you say so...Bandai Namco "May have" yes yes.. and I need a handout that's why I started the topic. You know the details of Marketing and PR work for the Steam store.. It's not the DS1 knight armor, the helm is different and he's purple and pink, and actually they are listed under the souls like games of this Sale.. because it's a Sale and not a festival.
