While it's true there are bad sellers and counterfeit products on eBay and Amazon, the sites themselves are based around legitimate business practices, unlike the gray market key reselling sites. I'm pretty sure most keys aren't even permitted to be resold.
Nearly none of the keys are actually permitted to be resold really, but not like they can stop them anyways. Gray market is still a business, but there issues with misinformation, and bad understanding behind them.
G2A shot themselves in AMA few times only to make themselves look bad when they lied about some of the Q&A, as well acted in repsonse to said person when actually called G2A out on their AMA. So it really didn't go too well with them for their rep, yes this was years ago.
Idea of setting up shop like Ebay to allow people to resell keys they no longer want that not used, or to make profit, but just for games only which was neat, but came with problems when comes to bad eggs known as scammers abusing the service, and that kind of where a lot of rep damage came from, during early stages of gray markets they have "protection fee" which is optional to choose to pay, or not, but by not paying you don't get service such as refund, G2A tried to improve on this issue years later by changing it to I think it was a week of free protection, but still if didn't pay, and didn't say anything, or issue happen after that time window you get no service, now of course there issue with their sub plan during their early stage it was really scummy, they try to lock you into monthly sub giving you small time window to be allowed when to unsub without having to tell your credit card to block them, again this was years ago, and only get worse for them as time went when came to doing AMA with community, and so on. Other gray markets try to save face, which why their rep is not as bad as G2A but get the point, G2A shot themselves couple of times.
