War Criminal Avatars
Like the title states check out my avatar.
I’ve noticed that the steam points shop sells animated avatars of known war criminals, these include people like Goring, Stalin or Beria.
You might as well put Adolf in there..
I’m going to keep the Stalin avatar because it’s so ridiculous, I’m Polish so this topic is pretty close to my heart, my grandmother smuggled resistance letters through Warsaw gutters.

Now I’m just making statements without judgment but what do you guys think, is this proper?
(I’m not for or against banning it, this post is motivated purely by my curiosity of what the public opinion is regarding this matter.)

Stalin-his kill count is ridiculous
Goring-Convicted war criminal
Beria-orchestrated the Katyn massacre and regularly r*ped children.
If we can showcase their avatars on our profiles then I’m pretty sure we can talk about them here.

Yet they put in the man as well, that plotted to kill Hitler. You left that one conveniently out.

If they can have LGBT stuff, terrorist/isis stuff, they can have war criminals. It's an alternate history game. There's games where you commit war crimes as well sold and part of the plot (Modern Warfare 2).

If those are to be removed let's remove everything people have an issue with no more fps shooter games, no more LGBT games, no more political games.

Seriously, it's just avatars. First world college students think those are glorious leaders of progress. It's just avatars.

Separate the games avatars from any conception you have. There's games with swastikas too, and that's part of the story/plot.

In this context we're obviously talking about the German Swastika in WW2 based video games (red flag, white circle, black swastika) not the Hindu cultural swastika.

I wouldn't be surprised if one did.

Characterizations of said people are far better than actual photos of the same. Doing so makes it clear it's from a video game rather than some homage to them. I'm sure that if they began to cause a lot of drama, Valve would have to step in and make a decision to remove them from the Points Shop if the publisher didn't do it themselves. They're not making any money from the Points Shop, so from profit standpoint it would be an easy decision.

If they sell avatars with bad historic figures,
while removing avatars of bad historic figures,
something is off.

Using an avatar of a nazi is not part of a story. Its representing something on its own.

I dont know why its suddenly nothing bad just because these avatars get "sold".

If you have a problem with any of it (the games point shop avatars), feel free to report it:

My pic is one of the worst criminals of the last 20 years. Surely you don't think it's a sign of support?

Stalin and Beria weren't war criminals. Beria did a lot to rehabilitlte falsely accused people. He was made a scapegoat by Khrushev, but most of the accusations were later proven wrong.

I'd have to read on Beria, but Stalin certainly commited a lot of crime. While his actions don't qualify as war crimes as he was mass-killing own people, he still was killing heaps of people. Formally not a war crime but a cruel sadist nonetheless.

I don't think Stalin would have any spare time to run the government or write as many books as he had if he was going around mass murdering people. Perhaps you're referring to his early years as a revolutionary or the Civil War period? Well the civil war is always about fighting people of the same country.

A state leader doesn't have to go around, personally murdering everyone. A state leader got a well-oiled machine to take care of those deeds, Stalin did. He surely spent some of his time building and maintaining his murder state machine, but that takes orders less of magnitude work, than personally murdering everyone.
