36 mb/s Broadband but only ever download at 4.8 mbs

Hi According to sky my isp I have 36 mb/s broadband yet the max download speed I have ever got on Steam is 4.8mb/s I have tried changing the download location from London to other ones like Delhi or Mumbai which I heard gave good speeds and nope still 4.8mb/s. I am downloading through a 10 gb lan onto a nvme 4.0 drive. what am I missing?

Are you sure your isp is not 36Mbps (megabits per second)? This would translate to the 4.8MB/s (megabytes per second)

Go into your download settings and check the box to "display download rates in bits per second."

Do you mean 36 mbps broadband? Cause that would translate to around 4,5 MB/s. Which seems to be correct in your case.

I would have to echo the other sentiments, users don't always acknowledge the differences between bits and bytes. And the numbers you threw out coincidentally match up in a way that suggests you may not be aware yourself.

in settings / downloads you can tick display in bits per second... is this helpful
