as for play a non steam game, that is simply an option to launch a game thru steam, it does not grant it any of the features that steam has like steam achievements, card drops, etc.
I have heard that the moon is made of cheese. game pass is not happening unless microsoft or valve release a statement about game pass being brought to steam. people love spreading false rumors.

Wait until something concrete is said by GabeN, Valve or Microsoft. Don't take a journalists rumor as the truth until it has evidence to back it up.
If they bring game-pass to Steam, they will lose their primary objective.
Valve gets a share as the host, but everything else still goes to Microsoft and they get free advertisement on top. It's why EA Play is now all cosy on Steam. Microsoft wants to create attachment and engagement and after that, they can sell you anything. Companies want to be an indispensable part of your existence now. Valve is only selling you a Deck so that they can sell you more Steam.
This isn't 2010, the days of fighting over shiny plastic boxes are very much on the way out.
Really, watch some of their recent press events and read the releases - they say the word "cloud" like it's water in a desert.
