More than one Profile name! Why?
I mean in rl i have only one name and it works out too. Why allowing players to have dozens of profile names and changing them like others change their clothing?
In games like Dbd i meanwhile dodge not only every lobby with at least one vac ban but also player with more than one profile name.

Why not?

Players have to refer to you somehow, and no one is using their real name online... using the account name would not be a good idea since you login with that, so a nickname is used - nicknames are temporary, and may change - just like they do irl.

I have used more than 345 unique names in the last 3 - 4 years

Nick names will usually be given by others (friends, family, ...) and wont change. I guess they just dont wont to be recognized since they did something wrong.
If someone was accused of cheating and even a yt vid proofs its right but the publisher usually did nothing (like bhvr with dbd) then they change their name cause many hav seen it in this vid and they dont want to be dodge nor draw consequnences for their unfair behaviour.
And that you could change your profile name that way easy makes it worse. I myself i am here for much more than a decade, i played round about 100 titles and i did not change my profile name.

OK i see you are some one who changes very often. So you cant stand for what your first name stands right? You just want to confuse everyone by using new names like companies that are not serious?

Then you are guessing wrong, there can be multiple reasons to change nick, and it's perfectly fine no matter what you might believe.

My advice. You do you and other people do what they want.

Plenty of people change their offline calling name. Heck, one can legally change their first name, or even surname, if one wants to do so.

There can be various reasons why people change their profile names. Plenty of those have nothing to do with "dont wont to be recognized since they did something wrong". It's just a gaming platform, things are supposed to be fun and changing the profile name regularly can be fun for people.

Simply put, other people do and see things differently from you. It's perfectly fine that people change their profile names, it's also perfectly fine that you don't do that.

For example many users like to display their clan/group/site tags in their profile name. If they change those they will want to update their profile name too.

There's people who have to stick with an edgy Steam username or one being an email account that no longer exists because they made that choice too long ago and didn't think it through. Imagine being stuck with 'EdgeLordOfEdginess' as your profile name for that same reason.

It can be annoying to not recognise a friend of yours because he's changed his profile name (But we have tagging for that) but anything in Steam is bound to your SteamID anyway.

I'd argue I'd hace gone down the path of giving users a unique and permanent name for forums, but solely for the fact that quoting refers to the name of the user at the moment of quoting, which can lead to some confusion if the user changes names over time.

lots of different reasons...
some change for deceptions
others change for mood...
some cant make up their mind/s..
and some cant be bothered changing
as it doesnt mean that much to them..

but recently i started a game where i
cant change my characters physics
and i didnt realise this and now i
am locked into something i thought
i would be and could be changing.. not impressed...

you have options...

you can block them if you dont trust them..
or
add a name to them yourself so you know who they were
or what game you met them on or have in common...
or
something else like not worry about it..

Since its legal you are right. But i dont trust people who permanently change their profile names. There are many others like me who did not.
And if there are multiple reasons why dont you give at least one.

If you do not trust them, then ignore or block them.

Tito gave some very good reasons.

Strange but i dont know anyone out of all people i know who changed his or her name in rl. Sounds mostly like an excuse and compared to profile names here you cannot compare at all (imho).
And like "TheEnd" you proclaim there are plenty of reasons but dont bring at least one good reason.

I have had 12 profile names in 17+ years.

Why? because i get bored with the old one and feel like a change.

Thats a good reason but how often will it happen? The confusion aspect is to me more important and i am sure most of them want to confuse since its so easy to do so. Then a neutral ID that never changed would be better.

I know a few people who did. But good of you to say that you can't compare real life names to profile names, especially when it's you who tries to use it as an argument in the first place.

I gave a reason as example: just for fun. It doesn't actually matter whether you consider that a good reason.

And if there are multiple reasons why dont you give at least one.

-to make it spellable in voip
-to make it readable for users (e.g. your name is written in kanji and you're playing on an EU server)
-multiple users with the same name
-requirement to show a clan tag
-to show your clan rank
-to accommodate server rules

I guess you get the concept, there surely are a lot more reasons to change names.

Here is one valid reason, because it's possible and the user no longer want the name he/she picked.

Why is it such a big problem to you what other users do or don't.
If you really need to keep track on people, do as adviced, tag them with a name.
