Steam status "Away" while Discord status online
What causes this? I've seen friends on Discord who continuously appear online long after they go to "away" on Steam. I'm not sure why I've noticed this; I'm just observant! I've seen people who are seemingly online on Discord for hours (at least when I've got my friends list up) and go back and forth from "away" to online on Steam. I'm assuming that maybe when someone goes back and forth from "away" to "online" on Steam they may be jumping on and off their computer. I hate that I'm so curious about this little thing, but I am, haha. Thanks in advance!

In steam if a person is logged in but not using for 10-15 mins it automatically turns on away status

Ooh, okay. So you can still be on your computer (hence the online status on Discord) and Steam automatically says you're away if you don't interact with Steam specifically for that amount of time and longer? What confuses me is that if someone is online on steam but not in a game, they may still show as online for quite a bit of time even though they're not playing. Hope this makes sense!
Online means the client is open and if you not interacting with the client - playing a game, browsing your library etc it puts your status to away.

Secondly Steam and Discord are two seperate clients, they do not interact. Been online on Discord is irrelevant.

That makes sense. I'm not good with understanding all of this so I appreciate your explanation!
Also the fact that Steam sets you to away quicker than Discord does. For Steam, it's 5 minutes. For discord, it's 15-20.

BUUUUUUUUZ WRONG! I've been told i was online on discord while not having a single instance of discord open on the phone or computer. It appears to be the "status on steam" (online / offline) if you go online on steam you're online on discord. So they clearly do interact.

Discord just reads the API of the steam client to pull status, steam does not interact with discord at all.

And that would be something Discord is doing, so go complain to them.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
