That said, Steam sees what it gets from the system. Check the device manager what your gamepad identifies yourself as.
I guess yours isn't named the same ? I'm lost
I just opened the global configuration for my XBox gamepad and I could remap all the buttons however I wanted. So what happens when you try? What happens when you open general controller settings with the gamepad attached?
In preferences, I can change
- Controller Name
- Haptics Preference (whatever that is lmao)
- Rumble (on / off)
- Player slot led
- Controller Light Brightness
Looks like you're in the per-game configuration menu. Let's see. Do you want to remap this thing only for this particular game, or all of them? Do you want a game-local mapping or a global one?
Well, you gotta admit, you were setting up confusion by talking of hovering. By the way, I just looked it up and it's "define layout" here, not "remap layout".
With that out of the way, enable the "generic" input mapper then & remap this thing for a particular game then. You can enable it globally or on a per-game basis.
Something seems to be off with your Steam though. I just plugged in my "generic" gamepad (so same as yours, some HID stuff) and when I click it, I get to a mapping screen. And after running that, I get that button I was talking about earlier when clicking it.
In the abomination that is Big Picture Mode, it's the same either you hover or click on it.
I do get a mapping screen on my Orbweaver (it's a pad with 20 programmable buttons). So yeah pretty useless to get the mapping on the pad that doesn't need it.
Maybe it's steam, maybe it's my computer, what I'm sure of, it's really depressing.
