Steamworks problem after paying fee.
I've paid the fee to publish my game on Steam and found that documents were needed which I do not have. I'm trying to resolve the issue with Steamworks support. I'll figure something out with them. So please go back to your weekends and enjoy it.

Not much you can do I would say. Depends on the documents, but they do have their needs. Like where to move the money from sales, taxes, etc.

What documents are missing?

I'm so gutted, they require a Passport or Driving licence details. I have everything else as I've already told them in the support ticket. I work in the UK and Pay taxes. They did not declare what was required until that part of the form after paying the fee and I'm cornered. It's a horrible way to be scammed.

You can't just get a passport? Those can't be that hard to come by?
Tekias2024 Mar 25, 2022 @ 12:18am
The cost and waiting time of a passport is a difficulty. This additional ID was not declared until after paying the fee. There was nothing to suggest which ID was required. It makes no sense to make someone pay the fee and throw in this hurdle to prevent an application being considered.

Sometimes you just have to bite the sour apple and do what they ask. Think about the game you want to release. :)

I've spent 8 years on this project. I didn't just think about it. I put work and effort in to it. Steam was my last hope. It was honestly the only place I had left. I work on a daily basis with vulnerable people and it's horrible to take advantage of that vulnerability of someone trying to make ends meat.

Then go get that darn passport! :D
They should have just opened if you're in the UK! Chop chop to it!

It may be some kind of fraud protection. But they should have disclosed it before payment. Unless you want to give them an ID, ask them for your money back. If you really want to make a statement publish it on your own.

You need to read all the information before paying the fee.

No one from support is helping and I have no idea what to do. I paid the fee and now I'm going to lose this money when I haven;t had a chance. What can I do? :(

The fee is non-refundable.
Recouping The Steam Direct Fee
The Steam Direct Fee is not refundable, but will be recoupable in the payment made after your product has at least $1,000.00 Adjusted Gross Revenue for Steam Store or in-app purchases. The recoupment of the Steam Direct Fee will be shown as a separate line item in your monthly report. Payment of revenue from sales and repayment of fee may be withheld if deposit payment is charged-back, refunded, or otherwise identified as fraudulent.

As for requiring identification, that is listed here.
What to Expect
There are a couple of steps along the path to getting your game up and ready for distribution via Steam. Here is a general overview.
  • Sign the digital paperwork. You’ll need the information as detailed below.
  • Pay the app deposit fee with any supported Steam payment method as detailed below.
  • Complete the paperwork with your bank and tax information as well as identity verification so that we know who we’ll be doing business with.

All this is long before you even consider doing anything.

It does not state what ID is required. I have every other kind of ID that allows me to work and rent in the UK. Why they don't consider other options make no sense when they have my full bank account details, address and contact number.

"Identity verification" is your ID. Stated very clearly in the docs. I even highlighted that part for you.

8 years and 5 to 10 week to get a passport...

you have already done 8 years... is this going to be a early access game...
Tekias2024 Mar 25, 2022 @ 12:37am
The problem is that nothing has been done since paying the fee. I've been asked to pay for something and received nothing in return. I'm told to pay just for someone to look at a form and I can't complete the form then I have nowhere else to go and I lose the money. I don't think anyone would pre-order a game for it to be delayed for a year and expect not to have that money returned. This is exactly why I should not be charged a fee when there is something I have been told I don't have and they won't return my money regardless of whether I have it or need to cancel the application.
but if you get a passport your off and running...
