Would you guys like to see Steam sell games on Android?
Just like the title says. I think it's time that Steam went to the mobile platform. Phones are now as powerful as last gen consoles, but they don't have the software to take advantage of that. My phone has a snapdragon 865 and I can't find any good games to play on it. Most games are touch based and we all know the issues with that. Steam with controller support would really shine on Android I feel. Developers would obviously have to port their games on the platform. All the gaming phones will finally have proper software to take advantage of the hardware and not just stream games of the cloud. :p

What do you guys think? Would you like to turn your phone into a Switch like system?

The problem with this is the devs, not steam really. You'd need a better market of games actually being put out on the device before you could get a service like Steam up and running.

What would be the added value? You'd still have to purchase the Android version (or are you so naieve to think you'd get it for free?) and the offering of games wouldn't be different from what already exists on Android.

If developers/publishers see a value in the mobile market, they already will pursue it. The existence of Steam on such a platform won't change things.
Steam doesn't make you purchase games multiple times (unless they are remasters). It is their policy. You can buy a game and play on 3 platforms (Windows/Linux/MacOS). While you are right on developers pursuing the platform if there is profit, I feel that most indie developers are put off from the google play store as it really favours freemium games.

Uh Steam isnt what you think it is. It is a distribution platform and n

You might be right, but I'm more interested in playing indie games rather than triple A games. So you wont need so much power in the first place. Give me shovel knight on my phone already ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!!

Then talk to the devs. Steam is a distribution platform and Valve as a developer doesnt make any of the types of games you're "demanding"

Do I wanna see Valve sell Games on Android?
Something tells me you aren't a PC User are you?
Ahaha. 2000+ hours on csgo, I'm most definitely a pc user :p. But sometimes I like to relax on my bed after work and play games that way. Some native Steam games on Android would be nice. Plus its more options and value for us PC gamers, we get to play games on a different platform without paying extra through cross play.

The issue is that, they probably will move STEAM to Mobile eventually, as that is
where the World wants them to move twards. I really hope PC's don't die out though.

But technically, you can already Game on a Smart Phone with steam right now.
I've done it before, & have screenshot my Games.

The experience look terrible, though.

It's a pixelated mess
It glitches up frequently & so easily
It runs quite smooth though

But again, if it ran Native-ly it would work very well on a Phone,
however, I don't technically like Cell Phones, & don't want my
PC anywhere near one, nor do I like Gaming or watching Videos
on a tiny screen like a Cell Phone.

More importantly, I can't game with Friends on a Phone when
my friends come over. The screen would be too small. I also
would deffinately want something for my friends to do when
they came over, so for these reasons & prob more, I just don't want this.

Um that's not how it works at all. That is 1 platform and 3 different OS's. Also there are multiple phone games ported to Steam that if you want to play them on Steam and Phone you have to buy them twice.

That is the DEVELOPERS decision. Steam has no say in the matter, nor can steam offer games on android as Steam doesn't MAKE the games.

Developers are already free to release their games on android if they want, and they could give you an android version for free if they wanted when you buy it on Steam so talk to them

I personally don't see the point at all.

That's actually the developer's choice, not Steam. Sure most devs do follow and give you the license for all platforms. But there were also cases where you had to purchase the licenses separately.
That means there's no guarantee you'll get the mobile platform license if you buy the PC Game in the event Steam also started selling mobile games.

I'd say it's even less likely than the case of Windows/Linux/MacOS as mobile is a totally different platform and enviroment.

Why would you need steam to use a gamepad on android devices?
At least on newer Android Versions a Bluetooth capable gamepad (like the xbox one) should work.....even my (old) Sony TV with Android 8 could be used with that (only tried that to test if the steam app would be better than connecting the pc directly)

Steam is a pc platform (windows/linux/mac). Android is an entirely different platform that Steam has no involvement in other than providing their own app. Regarding the games themselves, the publisher/developers can choose to make android versions of their games without any involvement from steam/valve, fact the one thing you stated correctly was "Developers would obviously have to port their games on the platform. ". In short, ask the developers/publishers if they can make an android version of their game(s).

Regarding turning a phone into a switch-like system, you can already do that. At this very moment without any steam games on android, you can connect a controller to a phone and enjoy them that way. "Most games are touch based and we all know the issues with that.", that can be resolved by using a controller. If the game somehow doesn't support external controllers, that is something the developers of the app would have to change and having steam on the phone would in no way change that.

Why do you need another platform when you can find all the mobile games you could never want on Steam already?

do you mean a mobile steam app, or the full PC style steam platform which hosts and plays your games?
ive just realised my ipad has a mobile steam app thanks to you :D so ive downloaded and logged in on my ipad and straight away realised its limitations,i dont think youll ever get PC quality gaming onto the mobile platform as itd be a nightmare preparing each game with a mobile version, you only have to look at how long its took to get mac OSX and (even later) linux accepted as valid steam gaming platforms to see how long itll take to get PC quality games on your high powered smart phone/ipad/tablet etc.

kind of stepping away from mobile phones but still in mobile gaming-there are boards like the raspberry pi zero (not the greatest pi board of them all,in fact its pretty rubbish for gaming but its the only one thatll properly fit the following) which when hooked up with a handheld case like the retroflag GPI can play some 32 bit games in theory but most have lag issues and graphical nightmares to deal with.
you woud need decent fans and ventilationn on the phone which i dont htink woud be possible in the slim size they are now, then again apart from building a couple of raspberry pi its years since ive been involved in PC/tech building so i may be wrong.

Android nor iOS allow something liek steam to exist on their platforms

its not a matter of 'steam wanting to do it'

Google/Apple simply dont allow it at all
