There's nothing special about it and the best is to just ignore them.
How do they even idle like this? They have 5 years of playtime for each games, it makes more than 50 years of playtime but profile is only 8 years old!?
Well, with SAM, idle daddy or other programs you can open dozens of games at once and let them run.
Then they get silly playtime like 8000 hours / two weeks, for example.
It's really just done by people that have nothing else special on their profile and still want some people to talk about them.
There's no practical use in doing that.
users online
users in game
game hours played on reviews if reviews are made
The number of people idling games isn’t likely too noticeable. How many users are playing with intermittent network access currently, e. g.?
network access / traffic..
usage is selling point..
the higher the usage the lower problem access looks...
if i faked 8000 hours just once from zero play... its an interesting statistic generator...
I don’t understand at all what you mean.
if you were a dev... what information
would you want if you were thinking
of selling your product on steam...
OK.
So how large is the impact on error bars, IYO, from users idling games?
It could be very large. Just increase the playtime of some s***y game to 500 hours and write up false positive review. It's good deception tactic.
You think a substantial fraction of users are idling hours?!
i dont really know... are SAM users known and removed..
from the stats... because SAM uses dont usually stop at just
one game... minimum 3 hours of SAM time to get the cards
if someone is pointing out 50 years of playtime on
a 8 year old account for just one person... thats a lot... a lot...
but its not one person... we dont have access to the stats...
does SAM say how many users it has...
i was just shocked at thinking one person could
put out 50 years of gaming in 8 years... i never really thought about it
i know of one person that would put 20 games into Idlers over night...
regularly so thats 20x6hours = 5 days at a time.. and they did a lot.. with no game play time...
the consumer/customer is used as the value sales pitch for Steam and
i would like to know i am being presented accurately in the stats
on everything as well..
its very interesting...
Maybe not substantial, as far as i see it's not small number either. Specially considering, it seems like good way to farm trading cards.
@ragefifty50,
Go to steamladder or globalsteam.online and check any game statistic. It's definitely not just one person.
