They need your account name, password and the current AUTH CODE

Without the info It's very hard to break in.

That's why the try to lure you onto a fake website with multiple reasons. Giveaways, fake butts reports, discord support nonsense, "vote for my team on xyz," etc

friending someone on steam is safe...

giving out your password and other details is not safe

the same for entering your details on 3rd party
sites for votes and things very high risk of unsafe...
