AMD External Events Utility taskbar conflict
So I have Steam on my taskbar but everytim I open it from there takes 15 seconds. I searched around Steam forums and people say the service AMD External Events Utility, if running opens it up instantly. I tried it and it works. So my question is does somebody know how to put it on startup because even though it is set up to start automatically, it never does, i have to start it manually. Or should this be something Valve should work on to help AMD produt owners?

I believe at the time I searched on the internet andi found an article on the topic, after many searches of course. But honestly it could have been a patch on an update that fixed it. I probably used the services window to fix it. In case I did, here is a thread that has a response related to it. Reddit[/website]
Report this bug in both Steam & AMD supports
?? just report this bug

Same situation.
I am are trying to determine the cause of the BSoD.
I wonder what AMD External Events Utility is doing.
Maybe, as the name suggests ?
The process of opening from pinned steam icon o the taskbar is delayed quiet much.
Taskbar context menu is same situation (store, library, Steam VR etc)
However, other applications( with similar interprocess communication capabilities) did not.
As far as I know this issue only occurs on Steam.
so I'm really curious.
So to fix this I created a batch .exe that runs everytime I start my computer and it fixed for me, since Steam does not fix it.

Here it is:

ECHO Starting AMD Services
sc start AMDExternalEventsUtility
"C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\u0377495.inf_amd64_58cc395c0bf03a26\B377432\atiesrxx.exe"
ECHO Starting AMD Services
pause

I recommend checking if what is between " " is the correct path on your computer. :8bitheart:

As another data point: I have a Ryzen 7 series CPU; don't even have an AMD External Events Utility service installed; and everything works just peachy out of the box.

So this might well be something that only affects certain legacy AMD products.

Oops, sorry I found this. so I have deleted my post.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/8bvcfo/do_not_disable_amd_external_events_utility/

I think it is better not to disable.
Actually, I saw flicker, tearing, whatever.

Thank you so much.

Yeah; seems this is tied to AMD video card products and FreeSync.

Yes, do not disable it. If AMD put it there is for a reason.

I don't have any Ryzen, I actually have Intel and then the GPU is AMD based, so I don't know.:csgo_gg:

It's normally only there to manage whether an application can enable Freesync or not - i.e. to detect whether it has gone fullscreen. And even then, it's only necessary for some games - presumably those that initialize fullscreen mode in legacy ways.

In fact; for some games on Steam you have to disable it, because some of what it does breaks the SteamInput API and renders your controller (partially) unusable.

Uh, interesting, thanks for that piece of information, might prove fruitful in the future if I have problems

Is there any solution to this "problem"? I just got my new PC with a Ryzen 7700x and a RTX 4080. I experience the same problem but couldnt find any solution to it. Well.. it is not really a problem it is just annoying because I always opened the store via the icon at the taskbar. It's almost like a habit and it's hard to learn it the other way around ( open it via icon tray )

Did anyone find a working solution yet? I tried everything I found online (restarting all AMD services from task manager) but it doesn't seem to make a difference. No biggie, but annoying. :steamsad:
