How to disable steamVR
I have recently added Elite Dangerous to my library.

However the game keeps starting in VR mode. Even though my PC does not have any VR connected to it, its not even VR compatible!

Been trying to find info on the internet about it, but all the information is really confusing.

People go on about disconnecting the viva box, but I don't have one of those.

And some people go on about changing the VR options on Steam. My steam has no VR to even select the options etc.

Was just going to delete the VR part of elite dangerous, from my library. But means I have to reinstall the whole game again, so the same problem will be there!

Any body got any answers on how to fix this?

Check if the 'SteamVR' application is installed on steam under Library>VR.
if so, there is a setting in SteamVR. Uncheck the box: "Start SteamVR when an application starts".

If you don't have SteamVR installed, right click elite dangerous and see if there's any extended launch options. Some games I have that are VR compatible have a "Start Game in desktop" and "start game in SteamVR" option.

People talking about the Vive box are talking about a little box that connects cords from your vive to computer, and also plugs into a wall outlet. Unplugging these cords would D/C your Vive IF you had one. When they refer to the VR options, they're talking about the actual SteamVR program. There's a bunch of settings in there to change. The program is downloadable through steam and would show up in your 'VR' tab. Why you would have it installed with no headset and all that is beyond me. Maybe it installed along side a vr compatible game?

A couple other things I found

"Just go into the graphics settings and turn off the 3D option." < A dev for the game said that. I think he means in the actual games video settings. Dont know if you can get to that since you're stuck in vr mode.

If you have GeForce Experience installed you can try using the 'optimize game' option. People have reported that fixed whatever was wrong.

And of course, if SteamVR is installed, uninstall it

In order to disable SteamVR from launching, let's make the system think it is uninstalled. Simply rename the SteamVR folder to something else than "SteamVR" and you are good to go. To enable it, rename it back to "SteamVR".

if you have amd and accidently or on purpose turned on Relive VR feature, than it may open steamvr automatically

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
