It's your job.
It kinda is steams job. They have to work out something with the law. Passport control idk something to prove that u are above 18.
Fun fact: The laws have 'always' been there and from a perspective of youth protection they make some, perhaps even a lot of sense, it just took time to realize digital markets for videogames / videos etc. have become a problem in the eyes of said laws. Valve (as well as other stores) hat a pretty long period of grace to look for solutions, almost none came up with anything but closing stores to German customers. It doesn'tt matter that you can just google for lewder stuff - the sites you find aren't as big and legitimate as Steam - they get away with ignoring German laws and regulations for now - but that might changes any time.
They have worked out a solution, not selling them. It's just not a solution you like but it 100% complies with the laws there.
It's entirely possible that might be the permanent solution if they deem that its not cost effective to comply with their requirements just for sales in one small region.
Its "nonsensical" to want to age gate pornographic games for underage users?
Its "nonsensical" to say " sorry but " are you 18? yes/no" is not a legit verification system?
Its "nonsensical" to demand a system in place that can verify the age of the buyer, something that nearly all major online stores offer?
REALLY?
Im not even German but who cares i was just asking because i saw a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ meme on reddit.
Mfs out here typing paragraphs.
brain wont understand that bro
Or the kid using their parents ID without them knowing about it.
Email account from the post office.
An email with a link. An email that is so official that it can be used by the police as a legitimate "post box".
You want to buy the game? Click the link we sent you to the specific account.
And if anyone still claims, it would not prove identity,
then EVERY SINGLE payment must be seen as FRAUDULENT.
As you can never know who used the payment method.
Oh, and the irony, saying this law was nonsensical, but being fine with an age gate that only filters out people who can not count current year minus 18........Hillarious!
What age can kids solve that age gate?
Making them 18......
Just because steam shuts down store pages does not mean, that that is what the law requires.
Its like saying
to prevent car accidents, no one drives a car.
Instead of saying, people need this or that to handle car driving.
I find it bizarre that people from somewhere in the world write here as experts about laws they dont know really that much about. Or even advocate that steam reaction is what should be upheld.
Actually that is precisely what many places do. Severe drought increases the risk of fire? No fireworks allowed to alleviate risk
Global Pandemic spreading? No large gatherings.
Restricting or blocking activities or things being sold are perfectly normal ways to comply with rulings. Steam is under no obligation to sell to every region in the world. If the cost of doing business in a region outweighs the benefits then you don't do business there. Sure there could be many ways to comply with the law, but not doing business in a region to comply with the law is totally an option.
No fancy law degree required, just basic common sense.
Except the age gate has nothing to do with blocking access. It exists to protect Steam from being sued because if a minor lies to gain access to content then their parent's can't sue if they accessed it. It's used in most of the world (except germany) and by basically every major website in the world.

Well this is an American company, so most sections are in English and dominated by such. There's areas for other languages; russian, french, german etc which you're free to use if you don't like Americans.
Next time, try not to lose your cool to the point you get a ban; you can use your anger to write in a civil manner to your politicians
