"Logitech dual action" gamepad with steam
1st the controller was showing up in the config section
Now steam says no controller connected.
windows 8.1 shows the controller connected.
It is a sensitive usb connector, but I finally have a solid connection, how do i get steam to see it, without needing to unplug it it again?

Under generic gamepad support i tried both on or off, i have tried turning on support for every controller listed i have tried turning off support in there for all the tick boxes , tried focus guide steam tick on and off.... how do i get steam to see this gamepad again?
Also been looking at previous topics for days on this and cannot find the solution.
THANKS in advance.

Wow, that's an old one. Really old. Windows 98 old.
Probably simply too old by now.
Does it show any input when calibrating it?

You're probably better off with its successor the Logitech F310.

Look it worked just fine 3 days ago. now steam says no controller connected, it works on non steam games fine too... It is not the controller, it is steam that i need to make work. No point in replacing something that isn't broke. Also, it is listed on the supported controllers on steam.

Yes it gets input when i use windows to calibrate it. But is there a 'calibrate it' section in steam?

EDIT: The controller settings screen in steam has two buttons at the bottom, one says "back", neither button will respond to mouse click or keyboard, i have to close the window with the x on top of window, not sure if it is a related issue.

For those this may help, I found the solution to my problem.
I go to Device Manager, view devices by connection,
1st, find controller, the last one in the tree it is in, if there are more than one. (ex. my controller has usb and HID, last in tree of view connections)
2. double click to open properties.
This is good time to make sure under power you uncheck, if checked device can turn off power. Check here and in the usb root container box is cleared, you probably know by now you do not want usb devices to turn off power to ports, or is it ports turning off power to device...don't answer that i know i wrote it wrong. Point is power management, uncheck box on usb root hub and any controller with that option to turn off.
Now in your device manager properties there is a "power" tab to RESET your device (win 8.1)
3. dO THE SAME AT THE TOP OF THE TREE to your usb root hub, reset and reset hub.
OPTION IS on the power tab for this. The previous box I mentioned is on the power management tab, two tabs: "power", and "power management".
I COULD HAVE WRITTEN THAT BETTER but I am not going to edit right now. Hope anyone that needs this can understand me.
For me, that is what i did, but there was another very important step...
In steam>settings, controller, steam did not see controller and the button on the bottom of the screen under generic controller settings where it said show hidden, would not respond. I would try to go to big picture config from the controller settings and get a NO CONTROLLER CONNECTED message and would not allow me to proceed.
I FOUND AN ALTERNATE WAY TO TURN ON BIG PICTURE MODE WHICH SUCKS BTW
you all may know it already but i was having the problem of not being able to get to the options there through the setting controller option, once there, AFTER resetting my controller and ports in device manager i was finally able to tell steam to show the hidden controller, the button worked by entering big screen mode through a different link.
LIKE I said forgive my poorly written SOLUTION, but that is how I solved the steam not seeing controller issue that i was having.
