Certain EA/Origin titles? You can't - blame scammers.
Third party? Right click game client -> view key.
If the game requires the CD key to start the game, you can find it by right-clicking on the game in your library, going to the manage tab and clicking the option that says 'CD keys'.
Did you play the game using Steam’s EA Play sub, maybe? Because those activations didn't count.
SUS
The games are tied to your account. These days the only time you would need a cd key is to add a third party game or key from resellers to steam/origin.
I remember that in the past it was possible to check cd keys for old(er) games in the game's properties in steam or purchase library but i think they phased this out. In any case you shouldn't need cd keys anymore once the games are added to your account.
WOW!! How about answering the question or being quiet? You added nothing to this discussion.
Wrong.
Just as an example for you. I know you will ask.
Age Of Wonder 3 can be purchased on Steam. Once launched, you will play as a "Guest" via their launcher until you register a valid Product Key. (See where I am going with this?}
There are numerous games that authenticate via keys to use services outside of Steam.
Mostly for game resources such as maps and what-not.
But, also for matches with other players.
Not ALL games use Steam protocols to handle all the functionality of their games.
Just some free knowledge for you, Sport.
Ubisoft how it works for new purchases, so you buy game > download game > you make a Ubisoft / Uplay account, > download Uplay to install then login > now launch game from Steam, and it will ask if you want link game to your Uplay account, once done, it's permanently tied to your Uplay account that must use with your same Steam account in order to launch the game.
EA / Origin basically same as Ubisoft/Uplay only difference it automatically adds game to your EA / Origin library without needing to download, or launch game if already link Steam profile to your EA / Origin account. But requires to launching the game is the same if want to play game.
The simple answer is:
If a game has a viewable *Key*, then you can right click the game name and under the *Manage* selection it will give you an option to view it.
If the option is not there, then the *Key* is not viewable and most probably you are out of luck.
It seems a couple companies had some issues, as stated above.
Steam just decided to make them obsolete as a "Fix" for this issue.
As they are the biggest digital game distribution platform, who is going to call them on it? We are all just out of luck for any features we are missing out on.
That is what I found out after a couple of days of going down this rabbit hole.
Sorry, man.
Another issue is scammers were buying copies, they copy the key, refund the game on Steam, and repeat with new accounts, then try to con people to buy the keys from them.
So overall the change was better what EA, and Ubisoft did, only issue that can happen is if end user decides to make multiple accounts for whatever reason, and make a mistske redeeming game on wrong account.
Already answered.
