Please explain me this game - ranks?

So I've had an account for ages, but only very recently got into CS GO. I did some looking around and found out to that play competitive you are limited to two wins per 24 hours until the restriction is lifted and you get placed into a 'rank'. The rank is supposedly meant to indicate your skill level and match you to other, similarly skilled players.

But...

I was getting completely run over in matchmaking during that time. It took me over 2 weeks of almost non stop losing to get those 10 wins, and only because I was paired with teammates who basically won the game despite me being there.

Persevere! Many said. It will get better once you get that rank...

So Valve, in all their infinity wisdom said "great, we have look upon you and decided you are a gold nova 3 star player. Whatever. On to my next match making...

But I am still paired against players who shoot lasers and got me dissected 3 times over before I even get a shot in :-/. I very rarely get a kill in and teammates kick me for being the lowest contributor (there is a lot of toxic behavior too, by the way).

So what's going on here? Shouldn't I be somewhere at the bottom, getting paired to less 'pro' players? I want to enjoy a casual game, I have no intentions of going e-sports or whatever.
For reference, I do play casual too (slower pace mostly, and I get a few more kills there) but the reason I steer away from it is because of all the trolls.

So this ranking system doesn't stack up I think. Either you suck big time and you never get a rank to begin with, or by some luck you do, but then you are ranked too high and get owned anyway. I mean, you could improve with practice, but not if you die 16 out of 16 rounds in the first 30 or so seconds :-/.
