If it's not a form of payment accepts it won't be accepted. Plenty of retailer do not accept any form of crypto currency

Wasn't OP describing a VISA card? Does Valve know where the money is being drawn from?

EDIT: It looks like the card must be "topped up" with funds in order to use it.

For example, a visa gift card isnt the same thing as a visa card. payments methods can tell.

My bad. Didn't really look into it. Just saw reference to crypto and made a rash assumption on that.

MCO Visa cards do not support Steam purchases.

Ensure all information is correct, and matches what you have on your crypto visa card.

If your crypto visa card not providing money to the store that requests the said funds then clearly not supported, unless you were suppose to convert your crypto to funds already before making purchase.

It's possible the card company not supported.

Could the whole system revolving around cryptocurrency raise red flags with some payment processors, perhaps including whoever handles Valve's payments?

True, but I've been able to use Visa gift cards on Steam before.

Probably. Valve experimented with accepting bitcoin before, but they stopped because it was too volatile (unstable).
Best to use actual money.

Why would you use that when you got to pay 2% more every time you cash out.

I think this is basically just a prepaid Visa card with a "crypto" marketing gimmick applied to it. Based on some other threads, it seems like Steam just doesn't play well with some prepaid cards.

As mentioned, could its backing by cryptocurrency raise red flags for some processors?

Not sure myself on this as I don't use them, nor understand how they're supposed to operate for their banking system, what the crypto bank company suppose to do is convert the cryptocurrency into actual money on their service that the Merchant can take from, if the crypto company try to push Crypto to the Merchant that did not asked for it will not work for that reason, that basically means trying to give bitcoin, but ther Merchant wants USD not bitcoin. Another possible way might not work if the Crypto bank trying to push high fees onto the Merchant that did not agree to that flag their system, but that just my guess on this, I'm not sure how they work since cryptocurrency is super volatile that could tank at any time, and value of the fees flexing all over the place.

Yea Valve drop them, it was right after when they saw a huge surge of wallet funds being bought with bitcoin.

I was having the same issue with that crypto card, so I switched to using my SolCard https://www.solcard.cc/ and have had no issues using this on steam

The crypto.com card doesn't function like a standard bank card, it's more akin to a preloaded visa card.
