The Steam subreddit has mods abusing their powers, the subreddit is cancerious; anti-opinion, anti-mental illness, mob mentality.

https://i.imgur.com/umijvzv.png As you can see this is a terrible reason (excuse) for my post to get removed, my kinds of posts end up on r/Steam all the time. Ones posing basic, simple questions. This didn't sit well with some of the people on this subreddit, and I managed to offend one of the moderators. So the moderator then decided to remove and lock the post even though it doesn't violate the rules at all. If this was some rule actively in effect most of the posts on r/Steam would be removed, but are they? No, this is just a form of mob mentality because someone isn't with the herd and thinks for themselves. And I've been silenced for thinking for myself, they were just looking for a reason to silence and ban me. Great way to promote freedom of speech, r/Steam.

I had people calling me "mentally ill" and telling me to STFU or saying I'm a ♥♥♥♥♥ then proceeding to downvote every reddit post I made from the past 6 months in order to "silence" whatever I say. It's a cancerous place full of mob mentality and status quo people and the mods approve and enforce it.

This post was up for about 14 hours before a moderator suddenly decided it violated the rules and I am to be permanently banned. Just looking for an excuse to silence someone because it's not the majority's opinion. None of the other posts where I was called "mentally ill" or told to "STFU" or called a "♥♥♥♥♥" got reported, removed or anything, that speaks volumes about the moderators doesn't it? It also shows that this is bogus.

I never initiated any form of attack on someone during this thread, people started attacking me and I simply returned the favour because people made a replies to me calling me "mentally ill," saying I'm "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" for asking a question and people telling me to "STFU" and just general name calling instead of addressing the subject. No matter because the thread wasn't removed for that... it was removed for somehow being "effortless content" even though there's many threads on the subreddit like mine.

Even though I wasn't the one who resorted to anti-mental illness sentiment, name calling and telling people to "STFU" for having a differing opinion. That just shows what kind of people who run it. People who hate any freedom of speech or any sort of individuality. They only let people in who are no different from everyone else.

I wonder what a person with a disability or mental illness like schizophrenia gets treated like among Steam and reddit users and mods. What a nasty piece of work, I actually have family members and friends with mental illness and have mentioned it in passing on my reddit before which is where most of these "mentally ill" or "mental help" claims came from after looking through my profile to downvote my posts.

It's simple, I'm not "normal" like them and I don't have the same views as the status quo and have a "mental illness" which is why I was banned, not because of anything else.

I tried to start a conversation about something and got attacked for it because I didn't share the majority's opinion. The mods didn't like that, they want absolute conformity, no differing of opinions. If you dare step out of that line you will get attacked then they'll say "u started it."

I don't expect this thread to stay unlocked, but just as long as enough people read it to know that the only rule on this subreddit is to agree with the majority's opinions, feelings and views or else you will be silenced. Thinking for yourself is a violation of the rules on this subreddit.

If your post (which is easily seen as a bait post here on these forums, why would it be seen any other way there?) was garnering a lot of angry responses, that's why it would have been closed. A lot of 'well meaning' folks post things and then have cause to regret doing so thanks to the replies.

There's a difference though, someone can simply disagree with what I asked. That's not what happened, I was subject to attack by a mob of users, being called "mentally ill," told to "STFU" then I was permanently banned by a mod for asking a question that normally people wouldn't ask instead of the people who are going to my reddit profile and downvoting every non-archived post, then proceeding to call me stuff like that. That's just mob mentality.

My post did fall within the rules itself, but people didn't like what I asked because it didn't fit the norm. So I was subject to that sort of treatment, I know it's reddit but I've never seen it this bad anywhere else.

Yeah, don't use reddit, let it die slowly. It is not a good place, especially if you have even the slightest variance of thought from the user base let alone any one person with a hint of authority on a section.

Think of it like a lighter resetera. That is a reason alone not to use it other than actual, informative subreddits.

Also obligated to not there's no freedom of speech here, and especially not reddit. It's best not to interact with reddit, especially if you find yourself swearing in anger.

I insulted someone back because they repeatedly told me to "shut the ♥♥♥♥ up" and started calling me a "♥♥♥♥♥" and such. Why isn't that person banned? And yeah, I was called mentally ill for using Windows 7 and why isn't that person banned? I only insulted anyone who insulted me first, and I have the html page saved itself.

The only people I insulted were the ones who insulted me first, and I sure as did call them "normies" after calling me "mentally ill."

What were the consequences of the people who joined the discussion in the thread throwing around names, calling people mentally ill and telling them to STFU? None, you're just justifying your decision even though if it were an equal field those people would be banned as well. Again, I never began any insulting-- if someone insulted me I just like I said returned the favour. And I got A LOT of passive aggressive remarks, insults and lots of "STFUs."

for "compatibility reasons"? Every day?

You only notice it when you watch the light of the hard drive when pc thinks its alone, at a specific time.

I've never been banned from a subreddit before and I've never had an issue with a subreddit community forming a mob and screaming "mentally ill" or "STFU" at someone for not being normal and having the same opinion. I've had people disagree with me, but I've never had that happen to me until now... I guess that I was lucky?

It's ok though, I don't want to be a part of a subreddit that insinuates someone is mentally ill then makes fun of them for being "mentally ill" because they're not boringly normal and decides that the person who is getting attacked by the other redditors is the one to blame because he was being targeted by a mob so banhammer.

No I was being called mentally ill before any mention of Windows... that was just an out of the blue remark because some people had been going through my profile and downvoting my stuff in other subreddits.

I use 7 for other reasons like compatibility with certain programs or old games that don't work properly on 10, and because every update Windows 10 was resetting all of my passwords and personal stuff. The telemetry was just another reason, and I made a few posts in subreddits about the Windows telemetry so I was clearly mentally ill according to some people on r/Steam, I guess it's also a reason to ban people from the subreddit as well.

I didn't know about that though, interesting.

It's the principle, I was banned for a reason unrelated to the rules. The rules were just an excuse, I saw many people who were violating the rules there before I even replied to them... did they get banned?

Well given what Satoru said, seems like a lot of that was spot-on. Don't post there, or learn to read the room. Throwing insults around doesn't matter who started it. It's your business to keep your own posts clean.
