Why is there so much anime in the points shop?
So recently I decided to browse the Steam points shop and discover what type of garbage they are offering in exchange for the fictional Steam point currency and what I noticed was an overwhelming amount of anime and images insinuating to sexual acts. What I envisioned was smut of the highest order, harlots with cat ears nuzzling up against one another, busty animated women in scantily clad clothing and a pink freak waving its tongue about. These blatantly sexual images are a large portion of the Steam shop and are frequently seen on the top rows of the animated avatars and backgrounds section. I'm a bit baffled here, Steam TOS explicitly states that pornography or inappropriate content is prohibited, yet despite this I see an abundance of what I consider to be animated hentai. Do you consider yourself exempt from your own rules Steam, are you above law and order? Here's a tip Steam, how about you stop filling up your platform with unhinged whorres holding seductive poses and divert your attention elsewhere. Fill up your shop with Knights, Vikings or at least anything that doesn't appeal to the average sex starved weeb. Sincerely, a concerned customer.

It is because game devs create them. The most popular content is from anime games.

More game devs are slowly adding more of a selection other than anime.

You know, it's pretty repulsive to think that kids as young as 8 will be exposed to this type of thing. I had to be a puritan here, but they should at least add a NSFW section, giving people some more degree of control.

Family View is a thing that can be enabled for children.

And nothing as of now is NSFW.

:qr:

Does family view extend to the Steam points shop? Also, what are you talking about, it is clearly NSFW. There's imagery of depraved catgirls kissing each other's necks, an image of a white haired catgirl exposing her rump and various other anime figures, who are obscured, albeit conspicuously semi nude.

Post 7 is related to you sending a link regarding concocting items for the points shop. Listen, I think you might have misinterpreted what i'm saying, I don't wish to be a SLAVE for Steam, destined to churn out shoddy animated profiles and emoticons. What I want is for this garbage to get off this platform and return to Hentai Haven where it belongs.

They aren't going anywhere unless they violate the rules.

I did an experiment to see if the steam store settings had any affect on what was seen on the points store and the answer is... nope. I'd call that a bit of an oversight. I already mentioned this to a few people who may be able to get the word to Valve, no guarantees though.

I think're they LARPing a christian-pagan crossover cult on the Steam forums. Slightly more offensive and dangerous to minors imo, than hugging catgirls, but i digress.

Anime is popular and mainstream, therefore it's not going anywhere. Point-shop filters will definitely be implemented sooner or later, given how often it's been suggested and especially as more and more shovelware-devs put stuff on there to promote their games.

Point shop items are purely cosmetic, at which point they would lose part of their fundamental value if people were able to simply opt out of seeing them through their preferences (setting their profile as private on the other hand is rather a choice per account).
It was either doing that or explicitly requiring all point shop content to be SFW, and they chose to go with the latter. I mean why would they ever intentionally cripple their point shop by choosing the former? There is room for a grey area in all of this, I do not deny that, but there is no reason to assume that NSFW content creators can't compress themselves and make point shop content that is more widely accepted. Rather than single them out on their NSFW rating/ genre.

How are they even remotely pagan lol, they blatantly have crosses adjacent to their name, indicating that it'd be Christian orientated. Learn your religious symbols before you hastily throw around accusations like that.

Crosses were pagan symbols in pre-Christian times.

OP, your incorrect use of the word "envisioned" was a tad amusing given it's context. Considering it means to picture in ones mind or imagine something (usually something positive).

Also, what is with this recent wave of stick-in-the-mud anti anime posters?
Because of the decline in steam quality control, duh.

Because alot of gamers are also anime fans, just ignore it.
