What does "Verify Game Files" do?
So I downloaded a mod that I thought wouldn't interfere with my vanilla game but it did, so now I cannot play the vanilla game. I have other mods as well but they don't interfere with my base game. So my question is, if I do verify game files, will it fix my vanilla game and remove the mod that has interfered with my game, will it remove the other mods as well or will it do none of these? Thanks.

No
Verifying game files does not remove mod.
Mods can also be tied to the saves forever start a new game with no mods or only the mods that work.
Delete all saves and then verify game files.
what game is it?

so far, in my experience probably trying "verify game files" a dozen times or more it's never corrected a problem.. so i doubt it'd correct yours

my suggestion, uninstall your game from steam, go to your steamapps folder, find where your game was installed, delete that, then reinstall it.. do this if absolutely nothing else works

@Jaunitta The game is "Rome total war 1" And I will try you're method, I only want the mods that mess with my game to be removed, but maybe I'll have to reinstall for that. Thanks.

@BurntByHellfire I will probably have to uninstall and reinstall as you said, just don't wanna do it since its a super pain especially on my slow computer, but looks like I'll have to if this doesn't work. Thanks again.

"Verify game files" goes through all the files which were downloaded by Steam for that game (apart from those the developer has marked as being user-modifiable) and checks that all of those files matches exactly with what Steam has on record as being that file's contents. If a file doesn't match exactly, it's deleted and a fresh copy is downloaded.

If a file isn't one that was downloaded by Steam in the first place, Steam will ignore it.

So it depends how the mods are layered onto the game. If they replace or modify existing files from the game, a verify will clean that out. If the mod works by adding additional new files, verify won't do anything to it.

@aiusepi Thank you. The mod replaced some of my files with new ones making me unable to play the original game, so hopefully verify will work. Thanks again.
