Some are probably using them for work. We still use XP at the office.

Steam hardware survery a bit rigged. I'm on Windows 7 and didn't had any survey from 2 years. Other people i know are in the same situation.

Do not give a rats hairy as* about the "Steam Survey"
By far the majority of Steam users do not partake.

Gamermeld video, as of today.

19.71% of PC users are using Windows 7

The companies I have contracted for have all gone Windows 10, either befote are just after official support stopped.

Windows 7 is still very much alive and being used by approx. 100 million users worldwide.

So Valve would do well to consider this before dictating what OS we are "allowed" to use to access games we have actually paid for !

That's not dictacting by Valve, but by Google. When Google will decide that people should stop to use Windows 7, they will make CEF not compatible with it and Valve needs to comply.
The same happened with Windows XP. The only reason why Steam is not compatibile with XP anymore is because of CEF.

(and yes, of course it's Valve's fault to have decided to build the client around CEF and so depend to every Google decision).

Valve does not dictate the OS used.

Developers choose which OS or more to support for their games.

Microsoft stopped support for XP and Windows 7.

Windows 10 has very good compatibility for older OS version games.

None of that relates to Valve at all.

I hear what you are saying.

What I really object is being told that I can no longer access my paid for games unless I change to a different OS.

People will reply about "should you still be able to use 98 or XP "

there is a world of difference between the functionality of Windows 7 and 98 or XP so it is a BS argument put forward by Steam fan boys.

I can still access my paid for games on Origin and Uplay (I know they have new names) using a Vista 64 HDD
I can not buy games or use the sites for anything else, but can still access my paid for games.

I want continued access to my paid for games and I do not want Windows 10

Don't visit dodgy websites or open sketchy emails. Have your internet via Ethernet cable

That's the #1 security advice! If there's no Nobel prize in IT yet, there should be one, just for that discovery!

You should not assume others are fanboys nor use it as an argument,

Windows 10 has very good compatibility for older OS version games.

You not wanting to update to Windows 10 does not make other opinions invalid.

Finally you own a license to download and play the game not the actual game.

As a sidenote - I can access all my older games on Windows 10.

@RedCelt
Yes, i agree with you. Users should be able to use their paid content without being forced to change their hardware or operative system. Of course Steam (or other) services can be halted, but not payed games.
That's what happen when companies embraces the "service model". Users purchase are kept as hostages, and they can't use them as they want anymore.
Valve don't want to provide a light client with only basic functions to launch games because their business model is shifted from provide games to provide a service, and users who only want to play their games and don't care at all of the new "Myspace Steam" are caught in the process.

I think the military used to use xp for a long long time aswell.
They might have upgraded now or they might still be on xp.
I'm not sure xD

Has Valve announced that they're dropping support for win 7? I must have missed a memo.

7 is a decrepit, dead OS from 2 (!) decades ago, most gamers have moved on and many devs aren't willing to invest time and money to make sure games that need modern hardware run on ancient software. But Valve/Steam will of course keep supporting it for a few more years so what exactly is the point of this thread? The f is OP talking about?

Same goes for Win10 users though so it evens out overall. Not rigged at all, gamers are just faster to move on than the rest of the world.
it really made me anxious knowing that win7 was no longer going to be supported...
then my win7 computer decided to blow up my sata drive ports one by one... spooky stuff

getting win10 to me was a nightmare with all the junk installed....

but now... its like win 7 never existed..... and win 10 is almost junk free...

i feel better now that i am on a supported system again... hurry up and get here win7 people :tv:
