Earning XBOX achievements playing on Steam

Can you earn Xbox achievement points playing Steam PC games?
I've only seen one answer to this from about 4 years ago so not sure if the answer has updated because the list was pretty old. Some games like Halo seem to transfer achievements across from Steam to the Xbox app for me but not others.

It used to be, but nowadays I think not anymore.

If you're not getting xbox achievements then it's something blocking your connection to the servers. I had the same thing on game pass titles.

So is there a way to sync the achievements?
I've got a few games that are in Game Pass but the Xbox app wont acknowledge what I've got on Steam

I could never get the old achievements I clearly earned unless I did them all over, but somehow fixed it so new achievements worked. Wish I could tell you what exactly I did but I don't know, some setting somewhere I bet.

I only know for sure that Gears 5 and Tactics, Age of Empires 1 To 3 DE, Halo MCC have both Steam and Xbox achives at the same time, have to be signed to XBL . Probably Sea of Thieves, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020. Maybe State of Decay 1 and 2, Ori. Sync not sure, probably no

Yeah, for Age of Empires II Definitive Edition it looks like you need to be signed to Xbox account in-game to earn achievements simultaneously on both platforms. When you get the one of them, then both achievement show up on screen, one from Steam and one from Xbox service. In 1 & 3 the same. But.... it's not perfect as I see and some of them not synced with Xbox account well. I've earned more achievements on Steam account than on Xbox.

PS Other older games from Steam could also get Xbox achievements, it's usually the games that use GFWL service, for example Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City, which doesn't have Steam achievements, but only the ones from Microsoft platform.

AFAIR you can get achievements on steam and uplay when you launch any ubi game

Any game where you log into an XBL account will get them on both. Halo MCC, Sea of Thieves for example.

when I bring up the xbox game bar it says there isnt any achievements for this game

I can say that achievements from the xbox account on steam are transferred, for example, I previously played Minecraft Dungeons on the Game Pass, and when it came out on Steam, I bought it with all the DLC, and when I logged into my Xbox account in the game, all the achievements that I had on Steam immediately appeared.

That's because there isn't XBox achievements for this game.
