Family sharing is really nowhere near what it is on Xbox...
I'm all for PCMR but jeez, two accounts can't play games at the same time?!

I thought it was that you couldn't play the same game at the same time which I thought was bad but somewhat acceptable. This is pathetic, on Xbox I can share almost every game I purchase in my household and play at the same time (even the same game!).

I doubt things are going to change since I saw posts dating way back on this, wish I had read them earlier...

The issue is more that xbox has pure vertical integration of the hardware and software stack. It also has a powerful and expensive tools.
* Banning your console
* Banning your account
* Banning any account that has ever logged into the console
* Banning other consoles tainted accounts have logged into.

Steam at worst can shut down an account. That's not that relevant since anyone trying to abuse the system will ensure the account has as least value as possible. Meaning they only have to extract as much value as a single game costs. After that if the account is terminated its irrelevant. It also allows them to scale that to many accounts as well. They can have hundreds of accounts running simultaneously with zero risk.

Again on xbox, ms can ban your system console from EVERYTHING. It not only will do that, it has the ability to :

1) any account thats shared with the banned account
2) any account that has even breathed on a banned console
3) Ban other console that banned account has ever logged into

This makes it EXTREMELY unattractive to both the person trying to 'rent' out an account, but also to any potential customers who risk their online accounts and their entire console from being banned.

These are things steam can't enforce which is why steam has to make its sharing more restrictive because it has no nuclear options to prevent abuse.

Thank you for this, it does help put things into perspective.

Like, charging money to be able to play multiplayer?

No, I'm specifically referring to the subject, game sharing. Playing games is free on PC anyway.
Aren't they removing the gold pass thing? I don't remember, I don't have xbox or its pass.
No, they said they're not removing it. But I think they will in due time to push their ultimate game pass, they been very focused on getting people to do it.

There three kinds of game pass.
Xbox ultimate game pass.
Ultimate game pass for PC or Xbox which is cheaper than the above.

- For people that didn't do Xbox ultimate game pass on their account yet, you can covert your gold time to Xbox ultimate game pass 1 to 1 ratio. Which is cheaper compare current Xbox ultimate game pass. Just stack up 3 years of gold, and convert it, and you save few $$$. Afterwards if you look it up, you see the conversation is pretty bad... Also idk if this promotion will remain, or not.

- Getting Xbox ultimate game pass for $1 for first month, $2 for first 2 months, or $3 for the first 3 months, this comes and goes randomly, most of the time it's $1 for first month. Trying to keep people hook when they see pricings if you stick to one system pass, instead of doing a Xbox + PC pass.

Anyways not bad deal IMO what Microsoft doing, but seems they're splashing money hard, with including all Microsoft games they own under them, + EA Play they made deal with them, so it's kind of a huge deal with all the amount of games you get, which Sony still haven't even counter yet as they're relying on their PSN+ and PSNOW to pick up the slack for them, but their service is rendered almost useless for PC because it's bad streaming service depending where you're are, compare to Sony just streaming the content to your system on PS4 to render the content, which some people think is the same thing but not, as PS4 actually gets the data texture, and stuff onto the system to render it out, on PC you don't you're just getting video streaming feed, nothing else.

It really does, as Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo has this power for a very long time.
