Steam has changed for the worst
okay so I have had my steam account on the early days and in the past say 5 years steam has slowly been clustered full of junk games and harder to find decent games.

They've implemented filtering system but it does not hide the games you want to hide in the search it will just grey it out, other game stores have at least some quality control over games released in their stores.

the fact is steam is being clustered full of web browser based games that no one wants to play and poor developers are desperate enough to make money from a very poor quality game.

my account is 15 years old, and I can say that with my experience in steam I know the changes over the years

For the main store page...

Q: Sometimes I see blurred out games on my Store front page. Why is that?

A: There are a number of sections on the front page that we fill with games, and to ensure the servers behind it don't melt down as everyone tries to use it, we do a lot of data caching. This works great for data sets that we can easily pre-compute - so if there's a game you shouldn't see due to your mature content filters, you'll never see it on the front page. But if you've chosen to do some more personal filtering of particular developers, or specific games, we can't do that pre-computation as easily. As a result, it's possible you'll see a blurred out game on the front page because your personal filters should cause it to be hidden. In practice, though, this will only happen if you've filtered out so many games that it can't find enough to fill a section of the front page, and again, like the search results, we'll blur that game out and tell you why.

For the search pages, you can already filter out ignored titles.

'Quality control' is boomer newspeak for 'remove everything I don't like from your store'.

Translation. You have a narrow interest spectrum and fewer games are being made that fall into that spectrum. Other people are however finding more great games than they can buy.

They've implemented filtering system but it does not hide the games you want to hide in the search it will just grey it out, other game stores have at least some quality control over games released in their stores.
Steam has quality control. Iits justt not designed to cater to people like yourself. See . People who aren't yo exist. People who aren't you, sometimes enjoy things tthat you don'tt. And here's the shocker so sit down. People who aren't you, have money and like to spend heir money on things they enjoy. Yeah I know, crazy righ.

the fact is steam is being clustered full of web browser based games that no one wants to play and poor developers are desperate enough to make money from a very poor quality game.
This is whatt you like to imagine since it allows you to justify your narrow interest range. Unfortunately the reality is quite different. It also shows how far behind the tech curve you are., Browsers are capable of running Doom these days.

The age of your account says absolutely nothing of merit to this discussion.

I agree with Tribbles Mcquibbles mostly junk games on steam no one wants to play online.
My account is 11 years old and positively despise the achievement goals on most games now.
The discovery Queue I abandoned many moons ago as it is a useless exercise in frustration.
Hunting for decent games through all the kiddie cartoon junk is down right painful.
I also have a game engine that starts with the letter "O" and it's even worse.

Feel for the developers but honestly, you've got to do better than what is being advertised now.
Put something out their we can support.

Hi Tibbles,

Take a look at the store page. There will be an entire raft of games advertised there because they match your interests. Personally for you I'd try CS:GO now it's free. You might like Payday 2 as well.

There's also a set of collections of games. For you because you're clearly a FPS guy I'd recommend Borderlands collection although I'm not sure that the prices are back down to their lowest yet.

I tend to agree with you that there are a lot of junk games on Steam but there are literally thousands of very good ones. And generally, not universally, the good stuff tends to have higher visibility than the bad.

As for Epic - this conversation isn't taking place there. This conversation couldn't take there. You're basically damning a platform with near infinitely more content anfd help than Epic for a spartan, Chinese influenced store with generally higher prices than Steam - but I accept their freebies can be good.

S.x.

PS. I've been here roughly half the time you have and have far more badges and games. Tell me what sort of games that you are looking for that you're not finding and I and the community will help you.

I'm a 16 year Steam member with over 600 games in my Library and 549 games on my Wish List, and the list is still growing. Perhaps Steam is just not right for you?

I've found that searching by genre is a good way to weed out uninteresting products from my search results. You're also not restricted to Steam for doing game searches: find some games on the Internet that look interesting, then come back to Steam to buy them. The Steam Discovery Queue is hit or miss, but I've still found (and purchased) quite a few games from that source.

It's really easy to find good games and ignore the garbage ones. My wishlist is as long as my library almost ijs.

Greenlight was done away with because it was just a loophole for devs to jump through (or circumvent). The freedom now on Steam means with the good we get alot of bad aswell.

There is no escaping seeing sockpuppet dev trash on Steam. I don't see why it's a huge deal, it's like seeing dog poo on the street and not stepping in it (in this scenario buying a trash game).

@OP you seem to just play multi so that seriously limits the scope of your browsing, as in "indie" trash is mostly single player quick dirty jobs.

I think overall it's good there is no quality control on Steam. For every thousand or more asset flips there's we hope one more Terraria, Cross Code, Black Mesa, Stardew Valley etc.

To be honest unless I'm plumbing the depths on the weekly sales I'm not seeing that many "trash" games. I might not like/ want everything in the the midweek and weekend sales but they are generally way above trash quality.

Sometimes the small games can be good. "Cthulhu Saves the World" is actually a fun game.

Buy the titles you want, ignore the ones you don't. I'd figure someone who has been here for 15 years would be used to the garbage in the Steam Store

I rarely search the store for something because I already know what I want after watching numerous gaming channels and award shows.

There are places where you get heavily fined if you let your pet do their business on a street.

I always smile at the funny comments defending Steam/Valve everything goes policy.

Call me an arrogant fool but I don't want to be like some poor fellow in a third world country combing the waste disposal site for some usable items.
So Steam store is a place of last resort for me nowadays which I visit only if there is no better offer from another key retail store.
adz Nov 27, 2020 @ 11:29pm
steam is fine for me, 17 years on it. for games its actually better today since some of the big devs are back ea,microsoft etc.
Ganger Nov 27, 2020 @ 11:35pm
I gave up searching for games on steam years ago, too much junk to swim though. These days I know what games I want to play, mostly AAA+ titles. For indy titles, unless a indy game has become popular then I won't even know they exist.

All the games im after aren't even available on steam anymore, I have to go to other stores to fill my gaming needs (uplay, epic, battlenet etc) and with subscription services being such bargains, I tend to use EA play or/and Gamespass alot.

Last game I bought on steam was Black Desert Online back in May 2019. I just think steam needs to change somehow, instead of waiting 12 months for games, steam needs to be pro-active and chase down developers and also do some kind of subscription service for users.
