Steam Next Fest Feedback
I honestly couldn't tell you if it was the 1st of the 10th time steam has hosted this next fest event but it was the 1st I've paid attention to for some reason. I wanted to share some feedback.

1. I found the lineup very interesting within the first 48 hours i had over 10 demo's installed of games i have never heard of before.

2. I watched numerous live streams and i never watch live streams, i found myself engrossed in the indie devs work and wanted to know more

3. The main problem i have with the platform is 95% + of the games are "Coming Soon". I assume that is part of the events purpose to promote games coming soon from mostly indie devs but it left me feeling overwhelmed with demos and wishlist adds rather than purchases.

4. I don't believe it's only "coming soon" games i have never heard there is probably hundreds of already released games I've not heard of as well.

5. Following on from point 4 i'm sure there are hundreds of indie games i am yet to discover as my steam store home page and everywhere else i look on steam always promotes me the same games that im interested in or these indie devs don't have the funds to promote there products. I'd love to see an showcase event for indie devs so i can find and discover more amazing games. Does anything like this exist?

there's the indie live expo but who knows when the next one's gonna be
for now, the closest you'll get for indie videogame discovery is using Steam's interactive recommender ( https://store.steampowered.com/recommender/ ) and cranking the «popularity» slider to «niche»
also i'm sure you can find lots of indie game steam curators

I think this is the sixth game festival. It started from last year. The next one is going to be on Feb 2022. There is total of three game festivals per year.

The games that are shown this month festival are planned for "To be released between October 7, 2021 and May 1, 2022" as per https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/steamnextfest/2021oct

Yeah steam has plenty of games most are hidden. You will have to keep finding those titles using the tags, curator & recommender.

I follow this curator :-

The purpose is indeed to generate exposure for games yet to release. The 5% that isn't on Coming Soon is a pre-purchase.

As others said, curators can help in that. I use genre specific curators for discoverability, as in I don't care about the reviews but they drop names that I can check out.

from the store's main page, click «Your Store» on the top -> «Interactive recommender» (7th option from the top)
