Is 30fps gaming going to die out?
Just looking for others opinions. It seems to me that with consoles now heavily upgrading their hardware they are aiming for 60fps as standard. I know this is nothing new for PC but we all know that consoles seem to dictate the path developers take. I am just hoping that games might be optimised better for 60+fps for PC gaming when in the past some games that were released on console at 30fps would run like rubbish on PC at 60fps due to the game not being optimised for it.

Once Nintendo consoles stop play games at 30FPS and the low end GPUS can play games a 60fps with low settings, and most PC games are optimized *cough *cough Microsoft filght sim then yes probably.

Probably not.
It dioes create a satisfying retro feel to games looking to capture the feel of the 8/16-bit era.

Having a non-smooth framerate is not a satisfying feeling and most games in the 8/16-bit era ran at 60 FPS (50 in PAL regions). Even the Gameboy have games that ran at 60 FPS.

I was about to say, NES and SNES ran at 60fps. Seems like Sega consoles ran slower, though, so maybe there's some nostalgia value there. Personally, I like 60+fps, even for those kind of games.

not a thing wrong with 30fps, as long as it's nintendo

or old games that can't be played on more then 30fps

lot's of games still feel smooth even at 30 fps , good frame pacing with a very little bit of motion blurring (the kind that is hard to even notice) can do the job.

lot's of peoples think 30 fps on PC is bad because most of the time they've seen it was when their games where dropping frames , either because of the CPU or GPU being pushed at 100% or because V-sync forced it.

It's actually much smoother when it's come to a game that was built with 30 fps in mind.

I mean , Start fox din't even hit 30 fps and it's still was very playable because it was built around that low framerates.

the only time w'ere gonna see every games running at more then 60 fps for everyone is way after the developers reached the limit of how much detailed real time graphics can be.

personally yeah , I prefer playing 60 fps when I can sacrifice a bit of visuals or even resolutions but it's also depend on what the game is ... if it's button mashing that doesn't require much precision sometime I don't even care.

Nothing dies; it's just what the director is aiming for and since most game are fast paced FPS, high refresh rates are popular. Movies are played at 24 fps.

I have bought Mario 3D All Stars collection.
I have decided to play a little bit Mario 64 at first to prepare myself, and then I started Mario Galaxy.
I have read on the web that Mario 64 and Mario Sunshine run at 30 fps while Mario Galaxy run at 60 fps.
I didn't notice any difference at all between the two games that I have played in that regard.
Now I know everybody will hate me, seems like I'm still a console peasant at heart lol

I hope not. I can't stand gaming at framerates higher than 30 because it makes everything look like plastic. I have a good PC. 3070, i7 12700f. And a 165 Hz monitor. I set it to run at 30fps.

Eventually 60fps will become the minimum but not for a while

Not when ray tracing and 4K is also being promoted as the norm. You can't have it all unless maybe you're playing vanilla Minecraft.

Nintendo giving up 30 fps? Funny.

Consoles are already struggling. Starfield is 30fps. Cyberpunk 2077 dlc was shown to be dipping down to 900p and 45fps.
